Puma Classic review.
« on: June 07, 2005, 04:19:30 PM »
i have used this ball on a few conditions now and here is my take. one on 38ft and THS.

mine is drilled with the pin above the ring finger and the cg down and to the right of that. there is a weighthole so the sideweight is taken out back to 0.

this ball is very smooth just like the original puma. its very clean thru the front part and makes a smooth arc to the pocket. the ball retains so much energy, i dont remember leaving any 10 pins with this ball. i left a few 9 pins though. there were a few times the ball went passed the breakpoint and left a 2-8. i think that was in part to the ball being new and no track has been developed.

i think this ball would be better on medium conditions with a defined break point. i played both up the lane and inside with this ball.

The Puma Classic comes with more shine than the original. The white pad fixed that. The roll is pretty much the same as the original. I heard that Dino used original Puma at Tour Trials.

Crossfire has same cover as Fire. Crossfire has the Puma weight block. Gets down the lane good with a smooth hook in the back. BIG improvement form the Fire!

The crossfire does have the same cover as the fire, but the crossfire has a predator core. The predator core and puma core are both lightbulb style, but the 2 balls react very differently. I can't remember how close the rg and diff is, but my crossfire hooks earlier and harder than my puma.

What exactly is the difference between these balls? Looks like they are basically identical.

http://www.ebonite.com/products/product_page.php?PRKey=234   Crossfire

http://www.ebonite.com/products/product_page.php?PRKey=233   Puma

On Edit: Check out those numbers...looks almost like the same ball with different colors to me

RG and Diff numbers for Puma and Crossfire are the same. Predator Sanded weight block is more round with a slightly larger puck on top.

2 1/2 inches pin to pap above ring finger.

THAT is a low track spinner I'd say!

The pin is not directly above the ring, its above and to the right, about 2 inches from the centerline.. My pap is around 5 1/4 by 1/2 up which tracks me really close to the fingers and thumb.. If you'd like me to measure it exactly, I can do that for you. I was just guessing about 2 1/2 because the ball wasn't in front of me and I have all my new stuff drilled by a friend.
