Question about the 2.0 surface change
« on: June 08, 2012, 12:57:02 PM »
I have a fairly new 2.0 that, with the box surface of 2000, is really strong and hard to control.  I tried it at 4000 but it was still a problem and lost some of it's overall hook.  I was wondering what would happen if I took it to 1000.  Would that cut down some on the sharp back end and result in a more even arc or would it be better to add polish.  I should mention that I haven't had a lot of luck when adding polish to other balls, however, I'm open to trying anything.

The ball is 15 lbs. drilled with the pin about 4 1/2" from the axis and about an inch above the ring finger.  My speed is around 15 mph and I have medium to lower revs. if that helps.

Any of you folks who have this ball I would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

Generally speaking the lower the grit the earlier the ball will hook the higher the grit the later it will hook and generate more back end. If the ball is hooking to much on the back end normally you would want to take it down so if it was at 2000 down to 1000 or even lower. If you want more back end you would want the higher grit (i.e2000, 4000) and or polish to get the look you are wanting.

hhhbs1 hit it on the head.  The lower the grit you go, the earlier the ball will read.  The higher the grit, you'll get more length later the read you will see.  Don't forget that your specific layout will also determine what the ball motion is going to be.

With the 2.0, I could see you possibly trying a 1500 polished finish.  It is a surface that typically will work on most balls from high performance pearls all the way to entry level products.  If you do the surface yourself, this is how you want to go about it:

1) Sand firmly 500 Abralon or Siaair on all 4 sides for 30 seconds
2) Sand lightly 1000 Abralon or Siaair on all 4 sides for 20 seconds
3) Sand lightly 2000 Abralon or Siaair on all 4 sides for 20 seconds
4) Sand lightly 4000 Abralon or Siaair on all 4 sides for 20 seconds
5) Polish lightly with Storm Step 2 (or similar) on all 4 sides for 15 seconds

Here is the Storm finish guides for their surfaces.
