Raid or Total NV or Bash or Clash...
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:07:04 AM »
I am a new member of this site and also new to this sport. I am looking to buy my own ball for the first time and I am not an experienced bowler.  I am just starting to get into this sport.  I am a two handed bowler mostly because I can never find a house ball that fits my hand right to creat an hook with my thumb in.  I am planning to buy a ball and have it drilled to finger tip "style?" and I want to learn to bowl stoker with decent hook.  I am kinda lost in what I should get with so many balls in the market.  I would really appreciate anyone's suggestion and advice.  I think a ball that is more forgiven would be good for a beginner like me.  And I don't think I can manage to do all those surface adjustments like you all experienced player talked about in the fourms.

I thought about NVS and TNV at first but after reading on this site...I am a little concern it's too advance for me.  Then I thought maybe a Raid seems to be a little more "user friendly" but the word "angular" about the cover stock kinda scares me.  I am leaning towards the Raid at this point but still pretty much have no idea.  When I bowl two handed with house ball, I stand 4 boards off the center to the left and place the ball down the middle of the lane and it travels to about the first mark from the right of the lane and back to the pocket pretty consistantly.  I don't know which ball would I be most likely be able to do the same thing with my thumb in....I am assuming my thumb would be all the way in with only my finger tips in the mid and ring fingers...

sorry I am not able to describe my question as well as other people here.  I am very new to this.  But I want to get a pretty good ball that fits me for a good few years even to spend a little more as long as it's not too "advanced" that I won't be able to manage it.  Please please give me some advice.

Thanks a lot

The Raid may be the best bet for you.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Thanks for all the advices.  I like the look of the Raid and it seems to be a little tamer, so to speak, than NVS or TNV...is that true??

azguy - out of all the ones you suggested, which one would be easiest to put more hook??

Also when I bowl house ball two handed, I usually use a 12# ball.  and when I use my friend's tornado 13#, again two handed cuz my friend's hands are a lot smaller, I notice more hook but once I get my new ball with my thumb in, I just don't know what to expect and I might not be able to put much hook to it...I also notice when I put my thumb in with any house balls (convention)...I can't put any hook one it

Thanks again everyone.  People are so cool and helpful here.  I didn't expect to have any responds so quick. Thanks.

The Clash will have the best chance for the larger hook, depending on you, lane conditions and how you have it drilled.

The biggest factor will be you. Any ball will hook, it's the bowler that brings out that ball's ability to hook.
