I have a chance to get a Ebonite SR300 from my Pro shop as payment for coaching our high school team. So, I was wondering what kind of ball it is. I get the choice between the SR300 and the Columbia Action Max. Is one ball "better" then the other? In other words, are they both "hits" or is one a dude?
Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

Take the SR300, its a good piece.

action Max is a best of breed almost a heavy oiler.

SR300 is a smooth medium condition ball.

Very different.

The action max is a great ball. Long lasting and hard hitting sums it up.

I have not seen BTM rate a ball higher on Medium than the SR300. I threw one a handful of times and it really impressed the hell out of me. It seemed to do everything in every area of the lane correctly and cosistantly and also it was versatile for me. It was smooth but, VERY continous too.

The only unknown about it for me is the durability. IIRC, it is the same cover as the one so, 150+ games should be able to be had before it is DOA.

I had had a SR300 and it was surprisingly strong - the cover had a lot of bite, more than I had planned in the first place. It is a great medium condition ball, and anything you'd need on a THS. With some polish you get some extra length out of it (if need be), and I did not have any loss of performance issue with mine (but I cleaned it religiously, after some complaints from The One and BW users).

Nevertheless, I sold mine because it was too much ball for my needs (too close to my S&A, whatever I tried) - but I'd recommend it anytime if you look for a ball that has length and pop. Its high RG pushes the ball well down the lane, and the medium RG saves energy, too.

Thanks again for everyones replies. I decided to go with the SR300 over the Columbia action max because I think it will fit my style a little better. My rev rate(300 to 325 rpm) is on the higher side for the speed that I throw (15.5 to 16.5 mph) and therefore I need a ball with a higher RG to get it down the lane further. I have tried several balls with RG's less then 2.50 and they always seem to read too early.

Also, I was impressed with the extremely high rating that the SR300 had in the BTM's ball reviews.
