Title: Regency 300 Urethane - ??
Post by: RandyO on March 09, 2010, 01:38:48 PM
I recently went back to 16# equipment and needed a spare ball. I don't really like 3-piece plastic for this role (was using a Faball Nail 15# before). The Pro Shop gave me a decent price on a "Regency 300 Urethane" ball - a black sanded looking thing without the original box. After he drilled it I was thrilled - it was a 2 piece ball, and judging by what I could see I'd guesstimate that it had a light-bulb looking core. If I had to stake money on it I'd say it was the old urethane Nitro, but I don't believe they came in black. Did Ebonite only put the Regency 300 label on "blem" or "seconds", or did they produce seperate products on the Regency 300 label? One thing I do know - this ball rocks!! Hits like a tank, and does what I like for a spare ball - it slides in the oil and hangs on to the dry boards if you miss a bit right on a ten pin.

Yup - just saw a picture of the urethane Turbo and that's probably what it is. Unless there was a problem with the specs I don't know why it would have been a blem except for the 6 or 7 little tiny surface pits that occur time to time on some balls.

I think what he meant was, some companies call blems by using a name on the ball, like Bonanza...  Instead of actually marking the ball a blem or a second...

Or the ball could have been a Special Makeup ball for someone like a K-Mart...

A private label...

Regency 300 was Ebonite's "Bonanza" Balls...

They all had Urethane engraved on the side..

They stopped producing Regency's ans Columbia stopped producing Bonanza's because USBC decided that the companies would have to pay to approve every color and core combo as opposed to just a blanket Bonanza/Regency logo..

That is why you now have X-Outs and Blems and 2nds...They all have the actual logo's.. They then found out you can charge more fo rt he blems with logo's as apposed to Regency's...
