Post by: splitcity on June 23, 2004, 07:45:57 AM
i got a good deal on a NIB riptide. can anyone give me some info on this one? im a stroker who likes to play inside about 15-5 with slow-med ball speed and not much hand.  what could you compare it to now days in terms of overall hook?  thanks

I agree.. I have know 2 people that had the Riptide and they both where very unhappy with the carry and overall hook of the ball..

Save your money and buy something newer..

I agree with posts so far.  I think the Riptide was Ebonite's first particle ball, and it was a heavy load.  I never saw much hook from mine, and it's carry was rather poor too.  I think it had hooked and was rolling before I even had a chance to shift my eyes from my mark to the ball.

I had two of them (one got wrecked)

It was definatly a heavy oil ball.

Most people consider the ball bad but I consider them people how can't adjust or people that can't through the ball in the same place twice. Just watch on how you drill it (drill something for backend, it still will hook alot).

Don't buy it.  I had one.  No way I could throw it on a house shot.  As said, burned up at my feet and if by a miracle I could hit the hole absolutely no carry.  Maybe an hour in the lustre King would have helped, but nothing short of that could save this ball.

it cant be that bad. after all someone at ebonite apparently thought high enough of its potential to produce it. ill keep you all posted but i just dont see how any ball can be so bad. it has to be a combination of bowler and ball. not JUST the nball. but we shall see.

That ball could flat 10 even if you threw it over-handed. Puke! It goes into Ebonite's all time worst list, could be number 1 or 2. Even worse than the WereWolf, that says alot.

its funny you say werewolf because thats exactly the first ball out of my bag. the werewolf is a good wet/dry ball for me. i avg 205-210, and ive shot a few 730+ with it. so does it hook more than my werewolf or less? i love my wolf so something tells me ill love my tide. ive always been different and done things different so ill probably shoot 300 with it right away.

I have to say the Riptide is one of the best balls I have thrown.  I have thrown alot of Ebonite stuff and I actually used the Riptide to win my first junior tournament when I was 16(2000).  I recently busted it out of the closet to throw on a sport shot, and it still works so it all depends on your preference.
