INTENSITY owners... does this ball die out fast too?
« on: May 08, 2004, 12:02:32 PM »
As with the ADDICTION, I've heard from a few people that say that the Apex INTENSITY dies out quick too. A few people have told me that they've been able to get a lot of life out of this ball... but others have said that their's died out quick.

I know that PARTICLE's seem to die quicker than Reactives, but only being able to get 40 games out of a particle ball is just plain UNCALLED FOR!!!

Anybody know anything about this?

I've got a NIB Intensity sitting here right now and I've got a chance to get some more real cheap and I was wondering about their durability?

I still like and use the Apex Adrenaline I got two years ago. Granted, this kind of ball needs more maintenance than a reactive. I wipe it with a towel between each throw and clean it afterwards with diluted home cleaner. Every two or three months I also soak the ball in warm water a couple of times and then Sand it smooth on the spinner, polish it and a give it a very light touch with the green scotch-brite pad.

My Intensity seemed to die really fast--I didn't even get 30 games on it.  That's unusual for a lot of reasons, the first being that ball death is something I rarely see on any ball, perhaps because of my obsessive maintenance regimen.

The other reasons that it's unusual are that that didn't happen with my original Apex (called the Reflex, I think--the red and blue one), and it hasn't happened with my particle Diesels, and they are Ebonite Hammers.

I had the Intensity.  I never had a problem with it dying out on me.  I drilled label with the pin about 4 1/2 from my axis point.  It had a nasty flip on the backend.  I shot my first 299 with that ball, left the 9 pin.

That was about the only positive thing I can say about it.  Otherwise the ball stunk.  No it wasn't the reaction, it was the brittle coverstock.  I bought one NIB and it crack out of the pin about 2 inches.  Ebonite replaced in for free, the next one cracked too in about the same place.  They refused to replace the second one, so I refused, still due, to buy anything else from them.  I still have the broken piece in my bag.  C300 did the same thing to me on the Cuda 2000, it cracked out in 3 weeks.  The refused to replace it so again I will not buy anything C300/AMF/Track.

I'm having absolutely no problem with my V2 Partical or Low Flare Stinger when it comes to dying out.  Heres a tip, dont leave it in the car overnight... Clean it once in a blue moon, and dont put 100 games a week on it.  And if it dies out then, get a resurface done to it. Balls can usually withstand 3-4 resurfaces before you need to get rid of them.

I had a Original Apex that died in one year. I realize i was not maintining it well. So when i got my Adrenline i made sure i took awsome care of it and i have been bowling 2 years with it and no sign of slowing down. I clean it after i am down with alcohol and about once every 2 months i throw it in the dish washer and it acts like it is brand new all the time. But i did have a freind that had a intesity die fast but also lack of maintenence.

Mine is still alvie and kicking... waiting for some oil to be able to be used
again.  Might even polish it if this short oil crap continues.

Thanks everybody!

Anybody else heard or seen any problems with this ball dying after 35-40 games?

Ric,

We've conversed on this topic before, but I'll make this as direct as possible:

Given proper care, the Intensity will last as long as any other balls available in the low-load particle category

I've owned my current Intensity for well over a year. I've put 100+ games on the ball during that time. It still rolls as close to new as I can remember. If you do the following, your Intensity will live a long productive life:

1) Wipe the ball with an oil-free towel between shots
2) At the end of the night, clean the ball completely with your favorite degreasing agent.
3) Every 25 games, apply a deep cleaning with one of the NeoTac or Track deep cleaning products.
4) Every 50 games or so, refresh the particles by hitting the cover with scothbrite on the spinner. I like first hitting all six sides with the green 600, followed by an application of grey 800. Follow with Ebonite Matte Finish polish.
5) Every 100 games, soak in warm water w/Dawn to bleed any excess oil.

If you follow the above regime, your particle Intensity will not die. And the same can be said for most other particle equipment. Those who claim their balls 'die' after 35-40 games do not take adequate care of their balls regardless of what they say.

Now go forth an enjoy an Intensity. Properly set up, this is one of the better agressive balls available.

My predator jungle green died out quickly also. I am pretty sure just abt all ebonite particle balls die out quickly.

Yep, if you've tried one, you've tried them all.
