Help me out Ebonite folk
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:51:04 AM »
Hey everyone,

Here's my current arsenal:

Heavy Oil: MoRich Total Shock & Awe
Med-Heavy: ??????
Medium (Solid) Ebonite XXXcel (highly, highly polished)
Medium (Pearl) Storm Paradigm
Medium (Skid-snap) The One
Med-Light: Raw Hammer Doom
Light: Blazing Inferno
Burnt-Spares: Target Zone

I'm looking for a ball that will start up sooner and offer more backend than the polished XXXcel but does not grab immediately like the Total Shock & Awe. I'm thinking of one of the following: Big Time (solid), XXcel, Nitro R2, V2 sanded. What do you Ebonite guys/gals think?

The XXcel pushes farther down lane than the XXXcel so I would refrain from getting that, all the other stuff I find to be less than the XXXcel.  That being said, the Big Time sanded would probably fit the bill better than the other balls you list as it is the flippiest of all those listed (still not very flippy, but the other stuff is VERY even)  If you like Morich, I would go with the Seek and Destroy.  It is quite angular and should, out of box, be longer than the Total Shock and Awe.  If you find it to rev up too quickly slap a weak polish on it and Yatzee.

We have drilled a few One's with a Pin Down at 4" from PAP and 1000 Abralon surface and had very good success with many players on medium-heavier volumes.

If you like the ball motion and roll of your factory ONE I would suggest one with a more agressive cover prep and lower pin they match up very well with larger volumes of oil.

Billy Ray, I was actually thinking of that as another possibility. I really do love the way The One that I have works for me. I've seen others use them with success with the shine knocked off, so that is certainly another avenue that I'll consider.

I was looking at this earlier and got distracted, but I was gonna say that THE ONE would be a great fit in there at about 1000 grit. When i drilled mine, it was way to jumpy on our sport patterns we run for our weds night shootout here.  I took the surface down to 1000 and it has a very similar motion to OOB finish, but can handle more oil. On the house shot it smoothes out the over under reaction i was getting. Great ball and it would fill that hole perfectly.
Any questions let me know

I think the Overtime would be a good fit there. I have one drilled pin beside ring and its stronger than my Big Time solid drilled pin above ring..

from what I've seen on the lanes..

The One - with rougher surface

Xcel -- heavy roll for oil (could also be surfaced prep)

older balls: obsession or V2, altho according to the site.. the obsession was the earliest rolling during its time..
