Title: sanding a optyx polyester ball
Post by: TwoFourEightNineNine on August 18, 2004, 07:08:51 PM
Is it safe to put an Optyx polyester ball through a light resurface (with sandpaper and the works)?

Thanks in advance.

I know some one who did it with the optex fourmula 1 ball and it was fine. I do not see why this would be any diffrent.

The trickiest part, of course, is getting the polished surface back on these balls.

I scratched one while drilling it and ended up going from 600 to about 2000 grit wet sanding and finished it with rubbing compound then a trip to the lustre king.  I could still see a difference, but the customer didn't notice the spot.

I think a product such as Finesse-It from 3M would do a much better job at removing the 2000 grit sanding lines and returning the surface to a glassy polish.

Jeremy, you might want to look into some optical grade polishes.  They are used on glass, to take away scratches.. I'm not so sure around the abrasion rating tho..
