Sad night last night with my total nv
« on: February 07, 2007, 04:26:36 AM »
Just got my total nv last monday and bowled with it last tuesday for a 674. Then Iget to bowling last night all excited to bowl and throwing in practice first ball was rough but then couldnt miss the pocket the rest of practice.  Then the lights turn on and I go strike, 10 pin spare, then overthrew the next one and left a 2,5.  Then my ball comes back with a DEEP gouge in it.  The gouge was about 1 inch by an half an inch.  And was probably a little deeper than an eighth of an inch.  Too make things worse it ends up being directly in my track.  I didnt know I could lose my motivation to bowl so fast.  I seriosly just wanted to go home.  So I took it to the counter and they tell me the pro-shop guy will fix it.  And I tell them this isnt happening bc for one last time he "fixed" one of my balls all he did was fill it with super glue.  And second of all its got only 6 games on it and the gouge is on the track so I want a new ball.  So now I have to wait for the owner to decide if he wants to buy me a new one. If not I know that ball will never be the same.  I guess the ball already paid for itself in jackpots but still it will suck if I have to go buy a new one already.

with gouges, there are generally two methods to fixing it.  If its smaller, super glue (or one of these kits: http://www.bowlersparadise.com/shop/bm/master/master_kwik_patch_kit.shtml).  If its larger than can be done with glue, you are looking at using plug material to try and fill the damaged area.

Nothing wrong with having it fixed, it doesn't really affect the performance. My Widow had 3 or 4 of them on the track and my pro shop guy just filled them in.

My opinion:

You can have a big scratch or gouge in a ball and it be in your track but with today's coverstock strength a gouge is going to make up such a small percentage of the surface are that your ball will roll over that it will not really hurt ball reaction much.......if at all.

NOW>....if your pro shop slops on the polish after fixing the spot then that would indeed make the ball react poorly or differently!

if it helps any the same thing happened to my no mercy. They offord to give me 50 towards the purchase of a new one. I am just now learning how to use it and it is nowhere near as strong as it was. I use it for med to light shots. When i furst got it i had swing room like crazy ,now if i am too fast i get ten pins. Its the fourth or fifth ball in my line up .

I still find it hard to believe that centers don't stand behind damaged equipment, especially for steady customers. While it's true, today's equipment is much more fragile than the days of old, a new ball, deep damage in the track, should be rectified even if for no other reason than to public relations.

The new new ball expense of replacing the damaged ball can easily be recovered with the repair and resale of the damaged ball. The new ball will cost $135 or less in most cases. MANY bowlers would be very happy with a current release "new" ball that has been plugged and repaired for $150 instead of #250.
