PBA Player of the Year!!!
« on: May 31, 2006, 05:37:03 AM »
PBA.com has just announced that  Tommy Jones is Player of the Year. Congrats to Tommy! He is a great bowler and very derserving of this title. Also, has anyone noticed that this makes 3 straight years that Ebonite(Hammer) has won the title.

Yea, but the Ebonite/Hammer equipment still gets very little respect from the bowling world and I have no clue why.. I have thrown just about every ball manufacturer over the past 2 years and I am going with 100% Hammer this summer.. The new balls they have coming out all look great..

So does this mean TJ will switch to a different company next year like the last couple POY's (Mika from Ebonite to Brunswick and PA from hammer to Free agent, mainly Ebonite)? Would love to see TJ throwing a Brunswick ball, although I am sure we will stay where he is at. Awesome bowling this year by him (last 2 years actually).

I bet a pro could throw any company's balls and do just fine.  The question is: Where does the money come from?  Ebonite wants to sponsor me?  Sweet!  Ebonite it is!

i had heard some where people said they didnt like ebonite that much due to them not haveing any ball that had a gutter to gutter hook. people didnt like it because they didnt receive a huge sweeping hook... but then again every one who tries them says they are at least good...
that was of course before the GB coverstocks...

I absolutely don't know why I love some balls ebonite has like the discontinued V2 Sanded and the overtime. I think many ppl just don't want to venture out of their favorite ball companies and give something else a chance and instead they just bag  on it becuase it's a company they think that sucks or becuase it's not popular! Just my 2 cents :/

Tommy makes em all hook gutter to gutter.

Amazing every time I go to a tough condition heavy oil synthetic tourney or watch an amateur on TV(art brown) he's looking great with the V2 power.

Well...I've searched and searched and searched!

I can find the initial posts on this site from the Masters...but not the following comments (only place I saw him also).

I am almost sure he used the V2 Power...but it is possible I am wrong.

Buddies pro shop listed it...I may contact them...they may have archive.

I've also seen it work on some very wet conditions at some slippery out of bounds tournies where nothing else could wrinkle.

REgards,

PS for all I know..you are him!

According to this article, Art Brown used The One in the Masters.  And I remember it being The One as well.  I can look at the tape when I go home this afternoon.  I don't think anyone's thrown the Power on TV.  TJ used an old V2 Sanded a while back, but that's it.

In more ways than THE ONE above...

I stand corrected!

Brunswick insiders!

Oooops!

Anyone see the cg on Mike Scroggins balls?  Anyone able to tell the difference between the two Strike Zones?

I voted for TJ last year, but Patrick Allen took the POY title.  I voted for TJ again this year because, quite honestly, no one else was really even close in the race.

Congrats to Tommy on 2 years of great bowling and a very well-deserved POY title.

Tommy is one of my favorite pros, and very deserving of the award.  He really seem to have TV figured out.  Norm Duke was in my opinion the clear second, and may have actually had a better season than Tommy, he just couldn't get over the hump of winning on TV until late in the year (after Tommy had won like three titles, including a major).
Ebonite is the hottest company on the market right now .  They may not have eclipsed Brunswick in total sales, but they made it alot closer than in recent years past.  I really think it began with the big time series.  They tweaked and rereleased some technology that sold well and made a name as some of the best mid line stuff.  Then they abandoned the less than stellar Instinct line/technology, and introduced a new cover and core.  Great strong good hitting stuff.  Now they are poised to continue this new trend, by bringing the GB 10.7 to a lower price point, releasing another One with a new cover and core, continuing great releases in the element and Time lines, and giving us something different with the no limit.
Hammer is also great, but for some reason they have difficulty getting noticed.  As chitown repeats every day, the Doom is among the best mid line balls ever produced, and the Hawg line is very good also.  They seem to be following Ebonite, by dropping their high performance cover to the mid line and coming out with a great low end piece.  I think that Hawg is a rather stupid name that they could do away with, and the first Hawg was not that well regarded so the name is somewhat tainted.  Never the less, I'm looking foward to seeing their new highend release.
