Animal Fat Film factory finish ?
« on: March 17, 2005, 06:06:26 PM »
How true is the animal fat based polish on ebonite ball?  Anyone got some sort of support?

I drilled up a Xcel pearl for a customer and the ball just never read the lane never stand up just like a dud.  This guy can make anything hook but not on this one, so I sand it down to 400 and a light 320 polish on 2 sides, no help, hit it down to 220 then black majic it 2 sides no help, hit it down to 220 bowtie...now the ball can read the lane but too early Than I remember something about the animal fat, so I 220 it more and get it up to 600 wet sand and polish it with 320... finally it works!!!!  The whole process is really embarrassing, so I really wanted to know if thats true about the animal fat stuff.

Not sure if I ever heard of the animal fat theory, but every pearlalized ball Ebonite makes seems to get bad reactions until you take the surface off of them and bring it back up.

I have taken the surface off of a few peoples stuff and they love the reaction after that.

Drilled 4 1/2 PAP 45 degree under ring.

Was compare with cherry bomb, ultimate inferno and pantera all drilled very similar, all react very well on the "southern california walled house shot".

Paul---if you come to the regional at Indio, CA, I can show u that ball.

ill be at that regional, just curious if it has a weighthole or not. maybe a 5" weight hole on the midline will get that ball to flare into a roll for you.

However, it's still recommended to break the surface and take it back up per John Gaines at Ebonite. It worked great for my Big Block Diesel.
