Tell me about the Playmaker:
« on: September 14, 2008, 09:35:26 AM »
I'm considering picking up a PlayMaker for my 12 year old daughter. A buddy of mine has a 14#, drilled label leverage that I'm looking at.

Just wondering what layouts, surfaces, conditions, etc. anyone has used their's on, good/bad, etc.

I think this would be a good ball for her. She's currently got a Strike Zone and N'Sane Leverage right now. Looking to replace both with a ball for heavier oil/longer patterns, and one for medium/lighter conditions.

Any input would be great.

Going to less ball than either of those, not sure what core is in at lower weight though. Clears the heads pretty decent and for me creates moderate entry angle, needs light mediums to work correctly or better.

Handles carrydown fairly well, good ball would give it 8.5/10 for a rating.

Well, because I don't know what the weight block dynamics are in the lower weights, I can't specifically say much. However, I can say that I throw a 14 pound playmaker, sanded down to 2000 Abralon, and it is the first ball out of my bag. No exceptions. This ball is versatile, hits, and gives a great look on both house and sport shots.

I have a high rev rate, so to get the ball to not track over the thumb, it's laid out pin about 1.5 in. above bridge, CG kicked out at about 45 degrees. This ball takes speed, revolution, turn, and tilt changes like a pro. I could not be happier with the ball.

But, as I said, it DOES NOT have the same weight block all the way from 12 - 16 pounds.

Righty
High rev rate (400-450 rpm)
Semi-high speed (16-17 mph)
Book average: 202

For a game based on the principles of science and math, bowling sure does have a bad habit of being illogical.

She throws 14#, so that's the weight I'm looking at for her.

The Playmaker in 14# has the lowest RG (2.44) and highest Diff. (0.58) of all available the available weights it's made in.

I have a 14# Playmaker drilled 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 with pin under fingers and no weight hole. I have low revs and 15-16 mph speed and I have no problem using this ball on synthetic lanes with oil that is on the heavy side of medium. I play along the edge of the oil line and have no problem getting the ball to turn the corner for me. With the low RG and higher Differential along with the pin under fingers which enables the ball to rev earlier in the heads, I have no problems getting this 14# ball to do the job for me on the lane conditions I described. It currently is the first ball out of my bag and is playable all the way down to medium light oil.

i would knock the factory polish off and put something else on it.

mine worked great for about 5-10 games then started looking severely beat up and started flaking out.

Have had the ball for around a month.  Was able to throw it on three patterns, 2 short, 1 long.  MIne is drilled pin to pap 3". cg about 2 inches from thumb.  Wt hole at VAL 2.5" down from pap.

Ball rolls nicely thru heads, good read off the buff area, then strong move to the pocket.  For me with this drill, I can only play with the long patterns.  With the shorter patterns, ball checks up too early and dives.  Ball is good, I have reserved another for a rainy day.  Carrys nicely too.  I would recommend the ball for mediums.
