I personally think The One is oerly sensative and condition specific.  It skids too far in oil without any reaction and when the lanes dry out or have a strong back end, The One over reacts.  yes I did try different surface preps.  Those who know me know I'm not a novice.

If you need further proof, read the reviews on The One,  Its a great ball, skids too much in oil and over reacts on the dry, its not driller friendly or release friendly.  Everyone should have this ball in their arsenal. One person even wrote this and then shot a 300 and then it became a great ball.  I think every ball I threw that I scored a 300 was great, but I never shot two 300's with the same ball.

All you have to do is read the reviews and see this ball sucks (except maybe for the professionals and higher quality players).  I mean, the pro bowlers drill up several of these balls in different drill patterns just to try and get a consistent skid hook and roll on it to score and few if any use it during qualifying rounds.

I use the Big Time pearl now in place of The One and the BTP is predictable, strong, driller and release friendly (when there is a medium oil condition).  It plays down and in great and you can follow the oil the way across the boards.  Not a good heavy oil ball, but thats what the XXXcel is for and the Big Time fits perfectly between the Big Time Pearl and the XXXcel.

IMHO.

Since I am not a big fan of ebonite, I do like the one. The key to this ball is to change the coverstock surface. I used 2000 abralon and this ball rocks. also, you got to watch layouts because of the block and cover. Furthermore, you have to use it on the right conditions because this ball is somewhat condition specific. I have ragged the excel series but the one is awesome cover and block.

I have to agree with briley804 on his response to your post.  Are you on some kind of quest to ruin the one and its sales?  The ball is well liked by many, I have just bought my second one off someone in the league I bowl.  It is the hottest ball out right now and sales show no sign of slowing down.  Also I have had great success changing my hand positions and using the ball, and there are many intelligent reviews, (see Ramtart's) that praise the ball.  I like the BTP also, but for me, I find that ball more over/under and condition specific than the one.

My pro shop driller of whom has recently been elected to the the state of "Oklahoma Bowling Hall of Fame" loves his One. Loves his Storm Paragidm also. The One and Paradigm have become the first two balls out of his bag.

You must know me and are pulling my leg  What was your member name when we use to post?  Anyone who knows me knows I use to be a ball tester for a major bowling ball company that I am not a liberty to post.  But those who know me here on Ballreviews from years past know that I know a little bit about bowling balls.

Yes I did post on this subject before.  But I really just wanted to bring up that those who posted reviews on The One and say its great are having the problems I outlined in my first post.

Great ball.  I love this ball.  Its condition specific and the lanes has to be just right because it is very driller unfriendly and release critical.  Way too much over under but they still say they love the ball.

Little old me will not effect the sales of The One.  I just state my opinion and in this case if you to read others reviews and wonder.

I am not bashing Ebonite.  Every ball I take to the lanes for leagues and tournaments is Ebonite.  Again, anyone who knows me know I have well over a hundred bowling balls and that was after giving SrKegler 30 bowling balls in Las Vegas for his junior league.

I love Ebonite equipment.  I even use Ebonite bowling gloves. In most cases it matches up with my game very well, but like some other bowling balls like the Tomestone (well before its time and the EMB ball from track) its to condition, drilling and release specific for the average bowling to be spending well over 200 dollars for.

Nicanor, when I used to communicate with you approx. a couple years ago, you were all Lane 1 then, or am I wrong here?

I was a lane 1 guy and still have a lot of that equipment though out dated a little.  I am starting to feel my game coming back to me after recovering from a bad motorcycle accident a little over a year ago.  I keep pulling out some older equipment but I really do think some of it is a little primitive in today's market.  I am matching up a lot better to the mid priced bowling balls like the Big Time, Big Time pearl, Cross Fire and just drilled a Sonic Boom.  Great bowling ball for me on the lane conditions I bowl on.  I'm getting stronger and my interest is starting to pick up.

Right now I'm looking for a particle and drilling that has a nice smooth arc to the pocket.  Not something that jumps off the break point that I can play straighter with.  It use to be the Raging Inferno.

I agree. I used this ball for an 8 game tourney and the lanes were absolutely scorched at the end of the day. I just kept moving left and eventually moved way right and was in the pocket all day. What type of drill do you have on it?

Northface,

The One I have drilled has the pin directly under my ring finger and the MB kicked about 45 degrees (not quite though).

My pap is 4 7/8 and 5/8 up.  I adjust me speed so its different, but for the most part its very close to 16 MPH.  Most I've bowled with said my rev rate is 3 but its more like 450.

I'm not saying The One isn't a hook monster when the backends ar dry.  I threw The One out to the half board mark at the break point and it flipped, came back and crushed the pocket.  I thought it was going in the gutter.  I just its too over/under and doesn't read the mid lane very well when there is almost any amount of oil.  But when it hits the dry, the ball is turning hard to the pocket.  When there is carry down, you can almost forget it unless you try to get outside of the carry down and let the ball work its way back to the pocket.

I'm going to work with it some more, then if I can't get it to work, I might re-drill and try again.  I love the core in the XXXcel, so I don't get why I am having such a hard time with The One.  Maybe its mental

I too was scared of the One not reading the midlane, so I went pin down. Even still the ball was too clean thru the fronts and ignored the midlane. Oh well I have an Overtime for an earlier read. Anyway I think its a good ball and imo it stays in play forever, now that doesnt mean you will strike all day but at least for me and many others ive seen with this ball you will be in the pocket for a very long time. I think its kind of odd because it sounds like Nicanor and myself have similiar games (speed, pap coordinates,rev rates) and it works for me and not him. If you look back I had the same complaints as you but it was my swing that was out of whack and I was squeezing it at the bottom. Now that my swing is somewhat back in order the ball is flat out getting it done.

I think you are past the point where you are wasting your own time and the space here. You have already published how you have not gotten this ball to work for you. We all understand that now. I hope you have gotten it off your chest. Why not sell the ball while it is still hot and get your maximum return on the ball?

Far too many people love this ball, with either its original finish or a modified one, for you to get others not to buy this ball. I can see no other reason why you are posting so much and so long about it. Why not be more positive and post how much use you get out of the balls you use daily and do like?

You got to be kidding me.  Driller sensitive???? All it says is not to put the MB in the weak quadrant.  Of course there's no law against it.  So basically Ebonite doesn't recommend label drills.  If you are the untalented type of driller that only knows how to drill label, and can't weigh out a ball, then you better turn this ball down at the door or you are wasting people's money.

Release sensitive?????  No way.  I basically use one release and it works just fine.  Coming around the side more?  just gets me a bit of length in the drier part of the lane.  However, it can't be that sensitive is such a wide variety of bowlers love this ball.  

Condition sensitive????  I've used it from 5 board to 20 board.  I've used it on a reverse block on synthetics to the THS with 1/2 wood.  From your posts it sounds to me like you want a ball that you can just sit there on the 10 board and strike all day.  When you find such a ball let me know and when you find such a house....I'll make sure I avoid it.  Your posts about the ball skidding and over reacting just sound like someone that has no idea how to get the ball lined up and stay lined up.  Maybe The One is just too much ball for you.  Accept it and go on.
