The * NVS *
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:04:40 AM »
Hello Ebonites

I was wondering your opinion on the NVS is. I am currently throwing some STORM and LANEMASTERS which I love but I cant get over the price that Buddies has the NVS for so I was thinking about trying it out,

btw, right now I am throwing the STORM Dimension and Rapid Solid and the LANEMASTERS Buzz.

Thanks for your input, Jake

Yeah the NVS was a really bad ball. I had one and the reaction was great for about 15 games. After that it just got worse and worse. Stick with what you're throwing.

My NVS is still running strong after 100+ games. It will only become a POS if you treat like a POS. Monthly baths along with cleaning after each game set keeps the ball rolling like new.

Not always. The reaction will die a slow and unrecoverable death...

Why do you say that?  Just because it is an Ebonite cover?

After a year, (100 games) the ball finally lost all it's backend reaction, hence ball death. But for the most part the ball was an over/under for me.

I have an NVS and took the ocver down to 1000 abralon and it is a great ball for heavier oil conditions I used it a lot this summer in the PBAX leagues.  It is a good complimentary ball to the TNV.  At this point though I think you would be better getting the NVD.

I've had it happen on my TNV and BWS

Oddball,

Thats interesting because I have a TNV with close to 800 games never been resurfaced and it still rolls like it was new.  I clean it weekly wipe off oil in between shots.  I have a friend that has a TNV and a BWS both at least 500 games a piece and still roll like new and he doesn't clean them near as much as I do.  Have you tried a Hot Water Bath?

I have a NVS with over 100 games and it still performs as new or very close as new. I've never tried the hot bath on these ball but i do clean the cover after each set (or at least I try to). I have it drilled with the pin above and to the right of my ring finger, CG stacked, and MB just bellow my thumbhole. I must say that for me with these drilling is way weaker than I tought it would, I need to play very close to the dry with these ball or it won't come back. For a house shot with dry outsides is perfect for me, as i like to play straighter and very close to the dry.

The NVS is one of the strongest midlane pearls you will ever come across.  I have personally never thrown one, but I know alot of people that have.  As long as you have enough oil it will roll sweet.  I don't know alot about the buzz, but the out of the box the NVS won't be as strong as the Dimension, and will probably be close in terms of reaction to your Rapid Fire, maybe a little earlier.

My teammate uses the NVS and it's indeed the smoothest out of the NV balls but also has an aggressive midlane motion. But his NVS tends to burn up too much energy after about 2 games so it's strong for a pearl ball. It's a good one to have for fresh oil and clean backends.

i had an nvs that i thought would be good for med to heavy but it wasnt. what it is though is an extremely good ball for med to light ,with polish, that carries like atlas and holds like vise grips. I hated mine until i realized what it was suited for.if i could find a decent priced one i would buy it .its not a hook monster, but once you get lined up with it it is very dependable and predictable.
I let a friend of mine throw it and i cant get it out of his hand now. I dropped from 16 to 15 so its no big deal ,but i would really like another at 15 lbs.

This ball is a Gem if laid out properly and the Cover adjusted/tweaked. I feel the ball is best laid out using a short pin (1-2" pin) placing the pin under the fingers, anywhere from 4 to 5" from PAP. Place the Mass Bias from 75 to 50 degrees based on the desired breakpoint shape. I had two of these drilled similarly, pin down - one at 5" from PAP, 75MB and one at 4½ from PAP and 55 MB. Basically, in this one house where I drilled them for, the two balls worked great and I would recommend to anyone. I did cover preps of 2000 Abralon w light polish on both pieces. I wouldn't drill this ball with the pin up.
