New Year's Video - The ONE Polished VS. Scuffed!
« on: December 31, 2005, 05:46:22 PM »
Happy 2006 everyone. I've been getting over the flu for the past couple of days and by the request of some of the members here, I decided to make a cheesy little comparison video of The ONE Polished Vs. Scuffed while I'm chillin' here at home.

OOB = 4000 Grit Factory Polish - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/128177/The%20One/The_One_2.jpg
Cover Adjustment = 600-800 Grit Scuffed - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/128177/The%20One/The_One_Sanded_Layout.jpg

Just to let you know, the center I was using The "Scuffed" one had an out of bounds from the 1st arrow to the gutter and the track area was burnt from open play. I'm pretty much just chasing the oil line in this center. The reaction is actually quite tamer due to time the ball spent in the oil in the heads & midlane. Anyways, enough with the babble...here it goes...

Here's the link to the video - http://media.putfile.com/The_One_Comparison_12_31_05

Sorry for the cruddy/grainy quality, I still have the old version of Windows Movie Maker =) I suggest selecting the "800" pixel viewing version.

Awesome video. I just won an auction for one of these, can't wait to try it out. It's been sanded already, but I think I might want to get it polished.

Hey Happy New Year's everyone,

Just to let everyone know, the lanes played pretty tight that day I used "The One Scuffed." So in the video, you saw a ball with very little "Belly." With more units of the oil in the middle portion of the lane, the scuffed cover gave me a good read and didn't squirt. Track area (2nd-3rd arrow burnt from open play) & 1st arrow to gutter was Out of Bounds, so they played real tight down the middle.

I used the "Scuffed ONE," during league on a modified Xmas Tree shot last week and this thing still "hooked." Granted, it didn't bend like it did when it was polished, but it still had some power when fed into the dry or "Free Hook Area."
I was impressed at it's versatility "Scuffed."

ragnrk - I currently have about 8 games on the ball "scuffed." I would have to say that the 2 times I went out with the ball, there wasn't drop in pin carry performance. Ball hit still had the same great hit. When I get another one at the TAT MegaBuck tournament in Vegas in Feb. I think I'll keep that one Polished.

HamPster - Hehe, yeah I know man. Big Vanessa Minnillo fan here, she was just too cute to keep out of the video hehe.

If you guys have anymore questions, let me know,
Ram

Ram.....I'd be interested to see what it would do at 1000 abralon ?

Probably between the two....leaning towards the reaction of the scuffed One!

Damn this ball is tempting!

Hey, by the way....after looking at your ball some more.....is that considered a strong mass bias position ?  it's quite a bit below your thumb......just wondrin'

Great vid!  This truly shows how much the cover makes a difference in ball reaction.

This can also justify a bowler buying two of the same ball with the same drill layout.  Just change the covers and you get two different reactions.

Ramtart, loved the pics of Vanessa, however, I saw neither a skirt or a jacket on her. ;-) Oh, right about the ball... I never realized the importance of the coverstock until watching your videos. I am a little puzzled though. I have my One at 4000 polished, and I can't get it to react much at all on drier lane conditions. I let my room mate throw the same ball to produce a wicked hook. I'm thinking about selling it, because I know The One isn't meant for dry lanes, but part of me is tempted to mess around with the coverstock first. Let me know what you think.

The operator of one of the two Pro Shops I go to is located in a house with new Brunswick Advil Synthetic lanes. He has both  the Storm Paradigm and the Ebonite "one". The Paradigm has Pin beside and above RF and the RAD right of the edge of the thumb about 1" and the One is layed out exactly like the picture Ramart has here. The Paradigm works great in it's shiny pearlized box finish, but the One won't work with it's shiny box finish on the same condition, so he had to sand it to make it work. It works great sanded, but won't work in box finish on the same conditions that the Paradigm works.

Jeff, I know. Yet the manufacturers recommended conditions is medium to heavy oil for both so people assume the balls will do that with their NIB coverstock, but the One won't without some changes.
