Drilled and Used the Big One
« on: February 07, 2006, 10:15:40 PM »
I received my Big One yesterday.  I drilled it just like my One.  Layout #2 on the Ebonite sheet, pin below the ring 4 1/2 from the axis and 2 1/4 above the midline.  MB is in the position on the #2 layout.  Weight hole on my axis, about 5/8 positive.

For me the ball starts about 5 feet earlier than my One but still gets down the lane very well.  The ball is about 8 boards stronger than my One with about 4-5 of that being on the backend.  The entry angle this ball can generate is quite impressive (left 4 stone 9 pins last night).  Ball definitely needs some oil up front, but will still clear the heads on spotty or drying heads.  Definitely not for bone dry heads.  Once the ball sees the dry it will make strong move, not skid flip just a hard arc. Overall, I would say the Big One is a med/heavy to med ball. The One for me (higher ball speed) is more med. to lighter mediums.  My Action and Strike Zone will definitely handle more oil.  I would've had a nice set last night if it was not for operator error.

I personally like the Big One. If it is too much for you you can still polish it. It is a nice compliment to the One.  The ball can really move depending on how much hand you have and how versatile your release is (big boomer friend threw it last night after league and was almost going coast to coast).

Jeff,

Yes.  The One of course has a few games on it now.  But comparing the 2 the Big One is definitely earlier (around 5 feet) and more than the One.    Another guy in my league now has both also and is more of a stroker and he agreed (his are both drilled #1) that the Big One is a little earlier and stronger.  He was very impressed.

Jeff,

Tough to say, but my guess is that the Big One will still be slightly earlier and stronger than the One.  It would be an interesting experiment that I am not ready to carry out at this moment, as I like both balls just like they are.  I typically do experiment with covers but I have the One right where I want it.  .

No, I sure don't.  Not too many XXXcel's in my area either.  The Overtime I have thrown and could compare.  The Big One was drilled slightly stronger, the overtime is earlier and smoother on the back.  The Big One is longer, more angular on the backend thus covering more boards on the backend (overall coverage maybe about the same). Again my opinion.  Not sure if this helps or not but thought I would add.

I drilled out one of these bad larry's and i must say this ball is quite a monster. I drilled it pin above ring. Cg kicked. Ball is just as it says, it hooked earlier than the one but a lot stronger. Hits hard such a great ball. If you guys like The One, you will love the big one. I will try to do up some videos.

We have been selling Big Ones since we received them Monday and the sales are very impressive. Everybody is saying that they are hearing great things about these balls as well as The One's and how they hook and hit. I think this will be another Huge seller for Ebonite and a great performer for almost everybody!
