Will the real Gamebreaker please stand up?
« on: April 13, 2016, 07:50:12 PM »
When I look back at Nats, my best set was minors with a Gamebreaker. It's long gone but not forgotten. I want to make sure I take another one with me this year, but which one?
GameBreaker II
GameBreaker II MVP
GameBreaker II Gold?

You know how everyone says they cross too many boards?  In my dreams....

If I had a wish list, I'd want a little more backend, and maybe a few more boards overall.... Perhaps a little stronger than the original with a late layout?
Feedback appreciated...
Thanks

sounds like you need to put a strong layout on a gbMVP

The GB2 is one of those balls that rolls good on a variety of conditions and one of my favorites. The MVP is good, but more conditional for me. When it matches up its really good but it needs friction. Anytime the lanes are tough you can't go wrong with a GB2 or IQ Tour if you matchup surfaces correctly allowing you to control the breakpoint.

the GB2 is very, very similar to the original
its my go to piece on most challenging conditions
the MVP is a bit longer and a touch more angular
the gold did not work for me at all and I got rid of it, it may have been the weaker layout I had on it and the cover just wouldn't respond to a long pin-pap.

the choice for me above the GB2 is now the Legion solid, also a great continuous piece

my original GB was pin over ring. with today's balls being stronger, plus my roll and my game  being a little different from 7 years ago, I feel like my pin down MVP with a little bit of surface gives me the same type of reaction i had from the original back in the day. More people have success with the regular GB2 though. You can't go wrong with either choice, but I wouldn't go with the gold if you're looking for benchmark reaction.

A fellow lefty... ;)
I still have an original Gamebreaker and a V2 if anyone's counting.  Actually used the GB a few weeks ago practicing on D/S nationals pattern and it was the best look for me as well.  Haywire is second in terms of look.  On Team, my Haywire is #1.

Long story short, I ordered a GB2 MVP so we'll see how it rolls.  If you haven't purchased already, I'll likely be testing it this Wednesday on both patterns.  I'm really looking for a solution on D/S because Haywire and Hy-Wire are my go to for Team.

Thanks to all. Thanks Coach T, I'll wait for your review. Interested also in your review on Haywire that I saw today. Really looking at that for Nats also. Right now I'm thinking my main three will be Scandal (just got and love it so far, Haywire, and GB2.

got back from Nats a week ago
I'm LH, 385ish rev, 16 or so mph

there were 2 of us on that side
1st of all, go see the Hammer booth, BOB or DAN, they will look at your equipment, talk with you and suggest some surfaces, for the left side
I took
legion solid, GB2, tour sic, Eruption pro hybrid, track heat
they put my legion at 1000 dull, the gb2 at 1000 dull, tour sic = same
in tema, the legion was very good, we used a 500 dull ball each in practice and into game 1 to try and help us with an area, switch to legion in frame 3 or 4
we played up 6-7, the other lefty used hos 500 grit brunswick all 3 games, I used my legion thew rest of the way
shot couple mid 190s and then 245 last game, it was a full squad (320 people)
my 635 was prob in top 10 on the squad, it's a hard pattern.
went back to booth the next day before minors, Bob told us it would seem longer than the extra 1' they put out, he was right.
I wish i had brought something stronger
We struggled in game 1 with the dull equipment playing outside, we switched balls, switched zones, nothing was any better
in game 5 (late, they started to open up a little, shot 221 game 6 with my 2" pin tour sic(still at 1000 dull) playing 12-10
I tried the Scandal at a demo days a few months ago, and it was way to much for me.
I bet I could have used it on the minors pattern, it felt that slick to me
a little extra speed and the ball went 60'
no matter what balls you take, there isn't any magic ball or surface that will do the trick, its flat out a tough pattern, you have to make good shots, have good release and good targeting.....make your spares
Good Luck

Thanks for the report Dave. I'm only 250 revs, so thinking the Scandal may do the trick. Bowling D/S this year with another lefty, first time ever at Nats having another lefty on the pair. We'll have to get together. I agree on throwing 500 in warm up...

Go see Dan and Bob
FYI - the practice lanes and the BJ are not the same as the tourn shot
do not use them to gauge much of anything,
the BJ and practice lanes have more friction IMO

I got back on Saturday.

Used a Seismic Dominion OOB for most of Team  Event, really don't see the need to go throw super dull outside plenty of hook inside. Played 15-9 and had a good look, switched to a Warrior Elite pin down
At 2000 Abralon for the last game shot 620 with two opens

S/D started about the same just a board or two farther in due to the pattern being longer. Went to Warrior Elite toward the end of Doubles moving into about 19 at the Arrows and 8 for the break point. Stayed that way through most of singles started to hook a bit more toward the end but nothing to wild.
