The One coverstock soaking oil?

quick question for the ebonite experts.

if The One coverstock is designed to soak up lots of oil will it mean that it will go off quicker than most other balls or is this new cover similar to Dyno Thanes soaker which claims to not lose reaction even though it soaks oil.

i have a Track Phenom which soaks oil and is an absolute nightmare to keep clean. it picks up dirt like nothing i've used and i'd be wary of a similar ball in the future

Yup, fascinating question the asnwer to which no one has yet provided.

But, don't forget, according to Ebonite, it is not a ball's absorbing too much oil that causes "ball death", but the plasticizer rising to the surface at the ball's track that causes it. So, they may not feel it's necessary to address this issue.

yeah i remember Ebonite coming out with that line about ball death and quite honestly i don't believe a single word of it. my own experience of baking/dishwashing balls and the experiences of many others tell me that oil in the cover kills reaction and Ebonite were just trying to sell more balls. after all if a ball can be revived why would you need a new one???

In general, (don't know if Ebonite's resin is that different from all the rest), if you keep the temperature, of whatever medium of heat you use, to below 150 degrees Fahrenheit, then what comes out is "only", theoretically, lane oil. This is why scalding hot tap hotis used/recommended. Itis only as hot as your water heater makes it, and most in order not to burn people's skin is set to the 140-160 degree range. Plasticizer begins to come out when the temperature is over 150 degrees, like in a car or a car trunk/boot in the hot Summer months. That's why, I believe, even new undrilled balls seem to "leak" oil in the heat.

i asked the same question to my shop and this is how they explained it because thats how it was explained to them at the ebonite seminar for the ball

the coverstock on the one is like a 12 ounce glass, while other coverstocks are an 8 ounce glass

i u pour 8 ounces of water into the 8 ounce glass it will be full so it will have no more capacity (losing rxn faster)

while with the ebonite cover it will stll have room to absorb oil thus lasting longer

I think I like the concept behind the D/T Soaker coverstock better.

Your explanation tells me the One's cover will hold more oil but since it absorbs so much faster, it won't last any longer.
