The ONE how good is it?
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:29:20 AM »
Is this ball that dam good or what?  I was talking to my pro shop guy who does not carry Ebonite balls.  Well when the ONE first came out I went into his shop and he had a ton of these.  I asked him what happened I though you said that you were not going to carry Ebonite because there wasn't a market for them here.  He said this ball is different.  Well he was right from the looks of it.

Is this just a hype or is this ball just that dam versatile and good?  I'm curious now and really might just break down and buy one.

For the guys that have this ball what do you feel about it?

chi--To answer your question.  I haven't used Ebonite for a long long time wasn't impressed with anything they had out there except the V2 sanded/solid.  Very nice benchmark ball.

Sooooo, I bought The One just because of the chatter about it and the "soaker" cover which I have used on DT pieces <Thing, Thing Returns & Energy>  Now Ebonite's "soaker" is not proven yet but so far <I have about 60 games on mine> it looks good.

The One is the best ball I have purchased this year.  If, you are looking for nice skid type flip reaction you'll like this ball.  It's a great medium type ball.

Do remember at 4000 abralon with polish over the top does not match up for everyone.  I have mine at 2000 abralon now for the majority of conditions I see and my stats. it's great.

It's the first out the bag on a THS normally and second on a heavier-medium to light heavy condition for me.
Had the first ten with it in City tourney on Sat. in the third game of team.

I don't think all the chatter is unjustified.

Look at what TJ has been doing with his this year.  I think that's all I've seen him use on TV.

Scotts, the ball looks great in TJ's hands, but what ball doesn't look good in his hands? Remember, he is only throwing this ball for 3-6 games on TV and then he is done with it........OK, now critizm aside, I have been on the edge of buying the ONE ever since they came out and still am, but seems everytime I get ready to buy one, the reports about this ball dying  after 30-40 games start flying again and I get scared out of buying it. This is one reason I said to remember that TJ only uses it 3-6 games. He doesn't use it 40 games to see if it dies out. Still, I want one but am scared to buy it.

Consider me the exception. I did not enjoy The One at all. I tried everything, and even when I slowed the ball and put some hand into it, it had so much forward roll that it cut a straight path through them leaving pins on both sides. That being said I had the ball plugged and redrilled, which increased it's hook the the same level as my lower priced balls, but it still produced very little pin action. The only difference between pin above bridge cg out, and pin next to ring cg in palm is the latter produced higher flare, but a very inconsistent breakpoint.

The One... yea it's for real.

As for the 40 to 50 game death, it's only true if you don't take care of it, just like all of the high end balls.

I just gave mine the 45min hot soapy water bath after 75 games and its back to OB reaction and hitting power. Shot my first sac 300 with it last Sun night in league and I am quite the hack, if I can do it anyone can... LOL

You would have to be blind not to recognize what this ball has done since its release. It reminds me of when the Blue Hammer first came out, that ball was so good every body had one in their bag...

Hey Chi, how's it goin' man?

Well, I have to say that I like this ball a bunch. It's probably one of my favorites of all time. I now have two of them. I have tried it in both "4000 grit Polished OOB" and "800-1000 grit scuffed." You can read my review in the Reviews section. I also have several videos posted in the review or check my profile.

Remember everyone, don't give up on a ball after using it in its' OOB surface. Try a surface change. Try a weight hole. Try tweaking the static weights (drill finger holes deeper, etc.)

Hope this helps!

I originally wanted a Strike Zone but mistakenly recieved The ONE from RevLefty. He offered to have me send it back and he would have reimbursed me for shipping costs and what not. I decided to keep The ONE because of the hype I heard about it. Sooooo, I plugged it, redrilled it and wasnt sure if it was gonna fit in my bag because it just hooked insanely. After 6 games the hook tamed down but has not lost any more after those 6 games.

With all the hype and some coverstock prep, this ball is my goto ball when my Vapor Zone isnt reading the lanes very well. I have the one at 1000 grit matte finish and i love it that way! Great ball, ive used it twice all night long and both nights were 655+. 657 with a 244 high game then 3 days later, 678 with a 286 high game.

I agree Brick...TJ could make any ball look good.  Why does he keep using The One when other Ebonite balls are also in their line?

The One matches up to him and many other bowlers so well....that's why the chatter about this ball.

As far as ball death...any ball will die if not maintained some more than others.

I think the ONLY balls I have used and not worried about cleaning right after use were the DT "soakers"...these balls just go and go.....with a periodic soak in hot water and Dawn.

The One made me a believer again in Ebonite.  I have used Legends, Visionary. MoRich and DT this year.  The One is the best purchase thus far this year.

Another decent night with the one. This time it was on a 43' sport shot. I average 160 on a sport condition so to average 178.7 in a night is really good for me. Played 20-15. Not a ton of snap at the backend but very readable! Great all around ball. Shot my high leauge game and series on sport tonight with the one. 200 game/536 series.

Ok, this is a first for me, but I already have two of them.
I wouldn't mind thinking of getting another one drilled differently.
Ughh...scary, but possible thought!

Best ball I ever had period! Averaging over 220 for the last 2 months. I did have to make a surface change. I sanded it down to 1000 and then applied polish to it. Picks up the midlane a bit earlier now. I clean it after every league and it still hooks a ton on the back end. Ball of the year.
