THE ONE?!!?
« on: June 21, 2006, 03:27:04 PM »
I don't know if this has been posted, but I have to ask.

What is wrong with my One? Why is it not hooking anymore? Anyone have pointers to make it hook again, without spending money? A hot bath? Resurface? Anything?

Put the ball in a pan you dont use to cook with anymore or even a tinfoil pan will work. Put pan with ball in the oven, turn on the oven, let it warm up with the ball already in the oven (do this with the oven cold and let everything warm up at 1 time to prevent cracking), every so oftem pull the rack out, wipe the ball down, make sure you have on gloves to prevent burns. Do not heat the over over 150*, that will surely damage your ball.

I have has a similar episode with my Big One. Was going to try the hot water bath tonight before league. Is the baking an option with a Big One too?

Have heard about the hot water bath, hot as you can tap water and little dawn in a bucket for 20-30 mins. The pull out and wipe clean. Thanks got any help.

When baking or soaking you can't use the ball for 24 hrs, or at least you're not supposed to.

I'd suggest CPR or sun, not a fan of the oven, but that's just me, I guess.

I have the ONE! After about 3 leagues .. using the ball .. I was getting NO REACTION at all!

Documented this on BR and people argued that I was wrong! Two or three members told me I had to get the ball cleaned. DIDN'T BELIEVE THEM .. continued to struggle with the ball .. finally shelving it!

Kept reading where others had the same complaint .. also read where some had success restoring the ball after using EBONITE cleaner. I got myself some of the cleaner (local Pro shop) and put the ball back in action I've been VERY HAPPY with the ball since then. Clean it after EVERY session!

Good luck!

mines happen the other way around.it was dead on arrival in my case. practice w/ it for a week & tried it once in league. the ball just can't seem to work for me I got all sorts of weird looking splits & pocket hits are weak.i brought down the surface to 2000 then 1000 but nothing still.

I got so frustrated i decided to just leave it in trunk in an older bowling bag.  haven't touch it for almost 2 months. then 2weeks ago league night, when they put a longer oiling pattern & my strikezone wasn't grabbing the lanes at all, i decided to have it sanded down at the pro shop, since i was in the middle of the game. i got no other choice but to get my The One just to finish out the last 3 frames of the game, to my surprize, 1 got 3 strikes to finished out w/ a 167. game2, my strikezone was ready, perfect entry to the pocket in the 1st, solid 10, 2nd frame weak 10. decided to use the one & finished out w/ a 236,197, 237. not much but considering i'm just a 185 so so ave. bowler, it was a big deal for me. maybe just luck I thought.

last week same league, shot a 213,221,224,255 w/ the one. my highest series by far. this week w/ a bad sparing night 205,222,180,167. the lanes got drier in the 3rd game & i don't have a ball to switch to since my other ball is sanded to 400 grit. that's how i landed here posting this topic

I also noticed the plastic ballholder of the bag where i previously stored it for 2 months, was all greasy & dripping wet with oils. I also have a regular habit of cleaning my balls w/ liquid cleaners after every use.
