TNV on a questionable Scorpion Pattern. includes *videos*
« on: February 19, 2007, 05:02:51 PM »
Alright guys, I got down to business and put some media up for your viewing pleasure. Bowled some game on the scorpion pattern using my TNV. ENJOY
The Layout at 1200grit.

This first video I kept up the ball speed and tried to go straight up 12.
http://media.putfile.com/TNV1
This next video I tried to belly the ball out to the breakpoint I found to be ideal for me.
http://media.putfile.com/tnv2
This ball was throw a little left of target.
http://media.putfile.com/tnv3
This last video is where I was trying to get the ball. This line died out after about 8 frames.

John Refused advice on where to play so as a result we get to see him put the ball down in a variety of areas. His TNV is at factory surface.
This video he tries covering alot of boards like hes housing it up.

Now he moves right. Still not on though.

John now goes REAL DEEP.

Time to put John in his place. He listens and looks good doing it.
http://media.putfile.com/SMASH-9
He still wanted to do it his way and this looks good too. After all there is more than one way to play this pattern.

Here is Charlie tearing it up with the Angular one. his layout is very similar to my TNV.

Not going to go into this too much, but I saw the graphs and watched em lay it out. I felt the pattern was playing easy to start, but the trouble came in the transitions and they come fast and often. While I dont have video of it happening a majority of shots that did go right never came back. resulting in splits and as you would refer to it as "3-pin city"

The lane surface is Pro Synthetic Anvil.

We are on Scorpion pattern in my PBA league now.  Looking at those shots, the only way that's Scorpion is if at least 12 games were already bowled on them and half of those games were spend burning up 3-7 with a ball at 220 grit.  Anything right of 9 bellying the ball like that on this pattern is like the ball falling off of the side of the lane.

I dunno man.  Real sketchy.  A few good releases in that video though, I will admit.

It's hard to believe that's the way the pattern plays for you on Pro-Anvilane.  My center has 5 month old HPLs and on the fresh Scorpion, I could slow bump my Blue Vibe from above 12 to 4 and had a terrific reaction.  In fact, I had to keep my breakpoint between 3 and 8 to keep the ball off the headpin.  But shots right of target in the front part of the lane had no chance of hitting the headpin.  Grabbed shots were a minumum 3-6-10, but mostly worse.  Surface has a huge affect on how the patterns play, but Pro-Anvilane will have the least amount of friction at the gutter.

Its disappointing to hear that. Guess you can take the videos for what they are, which is basically a few balls being thrown on a questionable pattern. Whatever did end up being on the lanes did break down incredibly fast. The shot didn't play like a house shot, but it wasn't all that difficult either.

By the way NEb i am from Buffalo and bowl at Broadway occasionally.  They are not Pro anvilane there.  They are old Murray synthetics, and the gutter seems to always play on sport patterns there.

Yea i'm John... you know the tall gooney kid that refuses to move i guess lol.... but i may have lost the first game but everyone on the pair got owned the rest of the night.  Just thought it would be known because neb is trying to say that i dont know what im doing... haha.  Also, yes the pattern was questionable and there was out of bounds for me outside of 7 but as long as i kept it at nine i got a nice reaction to the pocket, but it was too easy to be the scorpion.

That was the reason why i asked what surface it was on.  I bowled on scorpion a few weeks ago here, on pro anvil, and a ball going left to right that much through the front part of the lane had 0 chance of recovering that much.  All oil machines and lanes are not created equal though, ya get what you can i guess.

If those were the first two lanes run, some of the house pattern may still be left on the lane..  To get a true test of the pattern you need to strip only...  Run a burn in pair, and then strip/oil the lanes... Even then, you may still get a little of the house shot depending on how well the lane machine is stripping...  That is why you need to strip at least 2 times, if not more if you want to get a true idea if the machine is laying it down properly..

Still, I didn't mind the videos, thank you for making them...

Those were the only lanes run and they were not stripped. If the opportunity arises in the future I will try to get them to strip twice before running the pattern out. Word is we may be seeing the cheetah pattern in one of my travel leagues in the coming weeks. I will take some video of everyone bowling on that, could be interesting.
