NVS questions
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:03:10 PM »
I am looking into buying the new nvs, but I just have a few questions first, and any feedback that I can get would be great.    I have the Total nv, and a big one,  and I was wondering how big of a difference there is between the Big One and the NVS. I dont want to have three balls that do almost the same thing, so if anyone has that three ball combo, i was just wondering how you fit it all together considering different surfaces as well. So any feedback would be a great help.

I had the Big One, threw a friends TNV, and recently purchased a NVS.... This doesn't make me an expert by any means....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

From what I seen the NVS fits right between them but is closer to the Big One.... The Big One hooks up earlier than NVS and hits pretty good.... The TNV seemed to go longer in than the NVS and hit a ton, it was brought to a 2000 finsh..... The NVS hits a ton. OOB finish will work really well on drier lanes, if their is a ton of oil hit it with 1000 abralon pad. Just by hand, you don't need a spinner. I am going to try this with the cover and see, dry-medium out of box (2000-polished), medium-medium heavy (2000-dull), heavy oil (1000). My house shot is typically med-heavy so I have taken a 2000 pad to it and it's great, except for the new blister on my thumb (wrong insert size and weight change).

I really dont like my NVS... Its to "jumpy" i guess. I match up way better to the TNV

dull it down with 1000 or 2000 abralon, youll see a night and day difference in control

to the original post, judging based off the 2 balls you currently are throwing, i would say a totally different ball reaction is what you need. a Raid or maybe even an Angular One would be a better alternative. The NVS may be be what you need, but a desired reaction can be achieved from most any ball nowadays.

The NVS is a good ball and definitely what you should expect from a high performance ball. from my short experience with it, i do notice it gets back from shots where i miss right.

I forgot to mention that I do have the angular one, it is at 800 with polish, and i don't like it. I cant find a surface on that ball that will make it do what I want it to do, it is frustrating. No offense to anyone, but I don't think that it is as good of a ball as a lot of people thought that it would be. I have a cross fire and I love that ball and would throw that over my angular one anyday. Maybe its just time for a new ball.

I have been watching this and several other threads about suggestions on how to resurface or dull down the finish to 1000 or 2000 abralon.  I looked on the NVS Technical Information and Drill Sheet that came with my NVS and it say's the ball already has the 1000 grit abralon and is polished with powerhouse factory finish ball polish.  Do I understand these suggestions to mean, resurface with 1000 or 2000 abralon and then apply no polish?
Thanks for clearing this up for me.  I am pretty new to all of this.

That is correct..... Do not add polish with a 2000 pad.

I think I understand what you are saying.  I would likely be termed a stroker.  I throw about 13.5mph with low to medium revs on the ball.  The house conditions, I think, are in the medium oil range.  So from what has been suggested here,  I should hit it with a 2000 abralon pad and no polish.
Last night in league I shot 190/126/120.  I felt really good with the first game, but sucked it up bad on the last two.  Do not know what I did different, but something changed.

Thanks a lot for your help.  I am a work in progress.

"dull it down with 1000 or 2000 abralon, youll see a night and day difference in control."

I definitely agree with the quote above...was told to do the same thing and I notice a difference as well...hope this helps...God Bless!

Thanks for the reply guy's.
As suggested, I am quite certain that the last two games were operator error and NOT the balls fault.  My timing is not as it should be and in all honesty, I have several X's in the first game that should not have been.
That being said, it seems to have been mentioned here several times that perhaps the NVS can benefit from a surface adjustment to the OOB condition and from reading the replies here it seems as though either 1000 or 2000 abralon would be the way to go if I decided to give it a try.  The deciding factor, if I understand correctly, would be the lane conditions?  If this is a fair question, how much difference would one see on a THS between 1000 and 2000.

Thanks again for your help,
Lon

I don't get how so many people love their NVS and I hate mine. I even plugged it and had it redrilled and it still does nothing that warrants it to be a high-performance ball in my opinion.

I have it at 2000 no polish and I have my TNV 4000 w/ polish (factory finish) and I can follow my TNV line with the NVS. As in once a shot is dried out too much for my TNV I can throw the shot I was playing before that with my NVS. I just don't understand the NVS. I just feel like it doesn't want to recover from the out side and it doesn't like to go through oil so it is useless to me.

I originally had it drilled with pin above the ring finger cg kicked out and then had it plugged and it is a stacked drilling. I am not sure on details other that that.

My NVS was a little squirty FOR ME out of the box. I don't like the hockey stick reaction unless I am forced way inside. I decided to scuff the surface (lightly with green scotchbrite). WOW! What a difference. The ball started up earlier and was much more predictable off the break. Carry was still great. Do not hesitate to alter the surface on these balls before you give iup on them...the difference in reaction is night and day. I shot 723 just last night with it.

I have tried every surface under the sun with my NVS and still don't like it. I wasted my money buying that ball.
