Title: Tommy Jones Trick layout
Post by: bighook69 on February 09, 2010, 12:11:48 PM: Has anyone used the "Tommy Jones trick layout"? What are your thoughts? It is described as length an lots of backend... also says best for high-rev guys. I am on the "high-rev" spectrum and am going to pick up a Mission next week, and wanted to know if there was any thoughts on the layout... or using it on the Mission?

With the mission being a strong midlane and backend ball the layout does sound appealing, also with it being specific for high rev guys...

lol, after the Evolve I basically said no more ebonite... but this ball just looks so mean... so one last chance and if this one fails well then someone on here might get a nice 15# Mission single drill soon!!

I'd rather know it was the ball, personally, instead of guessing.

I just like the idea of the layout, something that produces high flare but still gets down the lane.

edit: I don''t have a favorite layout, nothing works for me lol

in Canton,MI,the site of the Queens qualifying and match play.When the equipment came in
from Ebonite it was funny to see him scramble for the odd lot balls.But with his game I understand
the need for such odd pins.

+1. If it is "last chance" for Ebonite for you, I do not understand why you would put a very (player-)specific layout on the ball? This is IMO destined to crash.
Better use a favorite or more generic layout - otherwise you will IMHO be hardly able to judge (and exploit) the ball's potential.

My Mission paid for it self the first night I got it. Pot games. shot Crazy numbers with it all weekend. 249, 278, 279, 279, 260, etc. I have already ordered mission number 2

Post by: bighook69 on February 10, 2010, 11:32:32 AM: well my 2 "favorite" layouts would be pin on PAP and pin below bridge... both are usually early rolling, smooth arc layouts... and with the Mission I was hoping to get away from that reaction to mix up my arsenal, was looking for something that will get down the lane and have a very strong midlane and backend... any suggestions?

not something unusual if you want to get a feel for the ball

when Im trying something new and I really want to see what the ball itself will do I simply go with a basic type of over the label drill or a simple stacked drill

Post by: completebowler on February 10, 2010, 04:24:54 PM: I have my Mission drilled with 33*-4 3/8-33* dual thumb layout with the hole in the p4 position. While it is very big overall when I get my feet way in (which is often with this ball) it can be very skid/snappy if played deep inside.

So I would recommend drilling it pin down (under ring) to see the most out of the midlane reaction. I am probably gonna do this with one myself eventually and I hate that layout but the ball is so strong on the back I was thinking this will smooth it out.

Also I had the TJ layout on my TNV and I had to dull it cause it was soooo long. I am a tweener but with a pretty good rev rate. I think this layout on the Mission would be hyper sensitive.

The houses I've been bowling in the New York City area a generally pretty dry these days so I put a light polish on my Mission. My 2nd mission I will keep in box condition for heavier volumes. The Mission seems to be a very versatile ball for drilling and cover changes. The Mission seems to pretty much do what you want it to do according to how you drill it and prepare the surface. I LOVE THIS BALL....

As soon as he got the Mission things picked back up. It is the only ball I've seen him throw for a while now. So Ebonite may have finally turned it back in the right direction.
