New Arsenal for the New Year
« on: December 18, 2005, 07:42:03 AM »
It's time for me to move back up in weight.

Over past year I have been throwing 13lbs equipment due to a lingering wrist injury.  The injury has worn off...while I still have some minor strain on my forearm I'm pretty sure I can handle an extra lbs now (plus carry with 13lbs sucks).

Anyways...I've been throwing Brunswick mostly but I am having trouble with their equipment overreacting down the lane.  This was mainly due to my higher rev rate and slower ball speed.

I've been hearing some good things with Ebonite that's out in the market (not too fond of the choices offered by Brunswick right now, don't want to hunt to find the stuff I do like).  So I am just looking for a good 3 ball arsenal plus a spare ball.

Right now I'm leaning towards:

Heavy/Med: The One
Med/Light: V2 Sweet
Light/Dry: Element Ice
Spare Ball

I'm really itchin' to try out The One...but I wanted to know if there were any other suggestions?

The Ice may end up being too strong for light/dry, be careful how you drill it and prep the surface.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm still pretty unsure of what there is as far as offerings for something under the V2 Sweet.  I have tried some of the Tornado line ups but they weren't that impressive, except as an entry level ball.  I've heard good things about the ice...so I figured with a weak layout it may get the job done.

I would also say the Vibe would be a better choice for the light.dry over the Ice. The Ice is a good ball, just a bit strong for dry. IMO.

If you are stuck on the Ice, let your driller know and go as weak as possible.

I will check those two out.

I'm still not sure how I want this arsenal to shape up.  I don't know if I will necessarily see a scorched patten...So I may end going with The One, something in between, and the V2 Sweet.

I am really liking the choices I have with Ebonite right now, so its hard to decide.

I cant see how you would use the One on med-heavy with its OOB surface, that being said, I think you should go as follows.

Overtime
One- very versatile when you throw it right almost like 2 balls in one.

I'm pretty stuck on having the One in my arsenal.

Even if its not a true heavy oil shot, most "medium" balls will work
for me on the heavier stuff my house lays down.

I actually have a Big Time, I may try it as well, but the ball seemed
to read the lanes too early for my liking.

I play on the first shift of the THS so I think I may try to get different looks rather than for different conditions, except for maybe the 3rd game where the Sweet should be okay.

Maybe The One, Xcel Pearl, and V2 Sweet?

If thats the case, different looks, drill 2 Ones, scuff one and leave the other as is. The One stays in play for a long time, bowled a 8 gamer yesterday and used it the whole tourney. At first I was a little skeptical but this ball is a gem.

That's good to know.  I may try that approach.

BTW, how is yours layed out?

I was planning on going with some pin up drillings
to try and combat the early reads i've been getting.
