Strong yet controllable drill for TNV
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:49:02 PM »
I just purchased one online, should be here in a week so I just wanted to pick all your brains.  I average 15.5-16 mph with 380 +/- revs and a 55 degree axis tilt so I am told.  I want the ball to be strong but controlable.  I know it is already supposed to be a consistent ball so I don't want to kill the backend to keep it controlable.  So, in your opinions, what drill should I use?  I want it for mostly medium conditions but I would like to be able to use it in heavier oil tournament shots.  Thanks for any info you can give me.

A lot of contradictions in your posting. I hope you do not throw the ball with 55 degrees tilt, because the ball would be spinning like those chinese tapei spinners. 55 degs of axis rotation sounds more reasonable.

Strong but controllable is an accurate description of the ball already. It just comes down to where you want it to react. Do you want it early or longer? The recommended drillings are to keep the pin over the fingers so the ball doesn't burn too early. You can adjust the angle of the bomb to get a later motion (75 to 90 degrees) or early motion (45 to 30 degrees). You could also come between the two by laying it out at 55-60 degrees which should put the motion right in the middle.

After you decide on the motion, you can use your Abralon pads to control the skid distance. It comes 4000 w/factory polish. You can take it down with lower grits to shorten the skid. A good versatile layout would be in the 55-60 degree bomb angle and then use your pads to take it up or down depending on the length and volume of the pattern you are playing on.

Sorry for rambling, there are just a lot of factors to really lay out a good piece to fit into your arsenal.
