How does this ball compare with other heavy oil balls like the Phenom or Fear Factor. Whats there difference? Which name is it, Apex or Apex Reflex?!

The original Apex was not a heavy oil ball, but covered medium to medium-heavy oil patterns.

Hello,
   The original Apex was made for heavy oil. With a 27 out of 30 in hook ratio and a length of 9.3 out of 30. it was made for oil. i had one and let me tell you it hooked like crazy! Still have it! but it is a ball that you need to take care of and clean continuously. Here is a link to Ebonite's website for it

Sheppy, sorry; don't give a rat's patootie what the Ebonite website says. Those numbers are good relative to other balls in the line and not every ball designed and marketed does exactly what the manufacturer says it does. We all know that for a fact. The Apex if sanded and left dull, like the Freak says his was, may handle heavy oil, but then what particle ball, with a core like the Apex's, wouldn't. Well, heck, Most resin solids, sanded to 600, I can use on heavy oil That's not the point here. Out of the box, the Apex original was NOT for TRUE heavy oil patterns. It handled medium to medium-heavy just fine.

The original Apex was the first of the Apex line and was just called the Apex. Later when we got them, on the box, we saw the name, "APex Reflex".

These new balls have fine grit, but dulled surfaces (mostly). The Apex came with a slight polish; if you dulled it as the Freak suggests, it may be able to handle true heavy oil, depending on the drilling and your "hand". Out of the box, you better hit the dry, and, then, it will hook a lot, with normal or regular drillings.

Charlest i have to disagree i own one and out of the box on a flood condition it hooked like a Train.  I have a feeling your not a ebonite person and everything is based on how you throw the ball also. I have friends that hook a polished ball all over with heavy oil. Me personally i hate Brunswick balls and don't think they make a good ball for heavy oil but that is my opinion and it doesn't mean i am right. thank you for discussing this me i enjoyed and hope you didn't take it the wrong way! Knock the pins down in bunches!

No harm at all and no ofense taken nor given. If it worked for you, that's fine; that is the important thing for you. "We each find the ball that works for us" is our goal; then we can worry about the important things, like execution and adjustments.

Maybe I am not an Ebonite person, though I give all companies a chance. The original Apex didn't work for me, but the Tornado solid, with some polish, works fine on several conditons. The old Blue Wolf was amazing, as was the Panther; couldn't do squat with the Cougar, the Nitro R2 pearl or the Red Wolf Pearl. And so it goes.

On the website it says the ball was for heavy oil, but your right, it also depends on your drilling and release. And thanks for the clarification on the name.
