V2 Power review
« on: June 07, 2005, 03:28:41 PM »
i have used this ball on a few conditions now and here is my take. one on 38ft and 44ft.

mine is drilled to go long and move very hard and continuous on the back. my pin is about 1.5 inches above the finger, with the cg on the midline under the ring finger. the reason i chose this layout was to make sure it got through the heads. the surface of the ball is very versatile, i have tried it both out of the box and with a light polish on it. with my game i think feel too much polish will give me over under.

this ball in comparison to the regular V2 Sanded... no comparison in reaction. but i see the same in both balls in the front part of the lane. its very smooth, but the difference on the back end is night and day. once this V2 hits the breakpoint , just watch out. it changes directions very hard. now its more of my layout that causes that reaction. i will get the desired reaction by changing the surface on the ball.

if u do not have that go long snap hard reaction in your bag, this is the ball for you.

Paul, what type of revrate and rotation do you have?  By reading your reviews and seeing how you perfer surface over polish and balls with smoother breakpoints or lower diff(like the Ice), I'm guessing a higher tilt player with a medium/high revrate, maybe around 350-375?  Please let us know.  I'm axiously awaiting the Puma review before I buy one this weekend.

my rev rate is about where u say, my mph is probably up in the 16-17mph range. i havent been on the cats system but people who have guessed i am about that.  i track pretty close to the finger and kind of close to the thumb.  my pap is 5 1/4 over and 3/4 up.

i just prefer surface on a few balls because the i need the surface on the fresh oil. i always start with polish, then i just scotchbrite it as needed.

Paul,

Ref V2 Power, my wife in an Ebonite 'nut' only throws V2 Sanded ( really anything with the Trimax cover), she has a slower speed, clocked 11.5-12.5 at pins , but that was at a state tourny on wood, striped/stripped pattern, anyway she has a slow wide arc. Lays it on 10 out to 2-3 then a nice arc back. I'm working on her to get the V2 Power, but stats wise, there isn't much difference on paper. What's the 'real world' difference in the two balls ?

Thanks

The big difference is the amount of hook the v2 power has. I don't remember off hand if the rg is lower on the v2 power but it sure does roll like it is. It rolls heavier and when the ball makes its move, its very strong. Not like the v2 sanded where its smooth. My v2 power was drilled to flip really hard, and it does just that.

On the pattern I bowled on and in practice, the v2 power was hooking overall the same as the xxxcel xxcel xcel particle, just the angle to the pocket was different.

For lane comparison v2 power, was standing 38, throwing over 21 20 out to 10 and crushing the pocket very hard, a lot of 9 pins.

The v2 sanded I was standing 24 23 throwing over 18 17 out to 10 coming in flush.

The 2 balls are layed out close, pins above fingers, cg down and to the right, only the v2 sanded has a weight hole because the cg is lower than the midline. Hope this helps.

It does help, and I can understand the differences....it's all in the cover, nothing more. The modified Trimax is giving the big difference between the two ( since yours are layed out just about the same) then that's the big difference.

Thanks again

Pizz, how would the Power compare to the Strong and the Strong/R?

The strong is particle and rolls early and smooth, the power is the new reactive trimax and has a lot of back end. Whether or not the power goes long or reads early depends on the way you or your proshop guy lays it out.

If the ball characteristics is to have a lot of back end, the drill it accordingly. Don't drill it to roll early. Why fight with physics? You'll get more over under out of a ball that way. Then u get on here and complain how much u hate it or it doesn't react like its supposed to.

I never threw a strong/r. I didn't feel like I needed one. Plus it looks like a frog in a blender going down the lane.

I have a lot of axis tilt, above average rev rate and 18 mph ball speed. With that ball roll, I get a lot of length with a lot of eqipment. The V2 Power for me rolls early and keeps on hooking, which I like! By comparison, the V2 Power rolls very similar to the Storm LaNina, which happens to be one of my all time favorites.
