What Happened To The V2 Sweet
« on: January 15, 2005, 03:08:25 AM »
In the area of July-August of last year, there was a lot of hype about the V2 Sweet being such a great ball. Even Buddies posted a great review of it and said something to the order of "this won't be the only V2 Sweet you will see on the rack this Fall." What happened that there is very little posted about it or no further hype about it. Did it not turn out to be that sweet? I had my eye on this ball once, but am now scared of it........

turned out to be kind of a dud. Not many people liked it. I know a kid who throws one, and has moderate success with it, but it never got very popular. Not a bad ball, just not one of the big hooking, pin smashing, tear up the whole lane kind of ball that people want now. Very smooth, looks to be a good control ball.

I throw a V2 Sweet and like it very much. Its the first ball out of the bag and it stays very consistent for me. I'm ready to buy another one.

all the v2 sweets ive seen hooked alot, including mine. i have underestimated how much it hooks. i was thinkin of putting a weight hole to tame it a little bit.

also, the Ebonite forum seems to be dead compared to other ball forums so thats why u may not see alot of hype on this website.

none the less it is a great ball, but from what i can tell its one of Ebonite's "condition" type balls.

pizz, how does it compare to the V2 Pearl that was discontinued approx. 2 years ago? I love the V2 Pearl and wish I had another one. It became the first ball out of my bag. It covered such a wide range of conditions. One of the hardest hitting, pin carrying balls I have ever had. Then I started to messing with my span/pitches and my driller all but ruined it. I was hoping the V2 Clean would replace it, but it didn't. Then I was hoping the V2 Sweet might replace it, but not sure it will now.

to be honest the v2 pearl and v2 sweet are not close at all.. my pearl is very controlled where as my sweet is a little over/under. when i practice i always start with my sweet because i really havent figured it out. what i do notice about the sweet is once it turns over, whether its midlane or further down, it doesnt stop hooking. i dont use it in the regionals because im not confident in the ball yet. i was thinkin a putting a weight hole in it to tame it down.

also i didnt like the factory polish so i sanded it with 800 and polished it from there.. maybe i should sand it to 1000 or 1500 then polish it up. that might give me the reaction i am lookin for because i cannot get that ball to hold.

i practice on sunday nights and mondays, so ill try the new surface and get back to you.

v2 pearl and v2 sanded = most versatile ebonite balls i have ever thrown.

Just ordered one......will have to let you know how it works.  I would love to hear from users of this ball and their honest opinions.  I was looking for a stronger reacting ball than my last one and was told this was the one to check out.  Meg

If they aren't already, Ebonite should be very sorry and disappointed that Brian Purcell is not there anymore. They've been "paying the price" ever since and will continue to do so until they get another person like Brian.

One of my friends had 2 of them and loved it. But you must keep polish on it or the carry will go.

V2 Pearl was SOOO much better, thats why the sweet flopped. It sucked.

My V2 Pearl was great also and wish I could find another 14# NIB. It was always my first ball out of my bag until my driller ruined it changing my span and the HIT was second to none.

I have two V2 pearls.  ONe is righty 15!

I think these balls were quite sweet and I've heard the Sweet is just as sweet.

I wouldn't hold off if you liked the pearl!

REgards,

\I think Ebonite is still good stuff.  TOmmy JOnes likes both the Sweet and the Ice as used in his win!  Both pretty and good moving balls.  I think quite a one two punch for mediums and dry.  V2 clean was liked by Mika!

I've gone through a few V2 original blues and never liked a single one if it was polished.  IMHO, its low-RG core and a shiny surface never seemed to match up to anything - not enough ball on long oil, but too early-rolling on dry..and too sensitive to wet-dry patterns.  That's how I feel about the V2 Sweet.  I guess that could've been expected since the Sweet is essentially a polished blue V2 Sanded.  I should give it more use to track it up some, but that's difficult to do when you're not real confident with a ball in the first place.

OTOH, the V2 Pearl was a great match for me.  The shell tweak was just different enough from the original V2 for me to use it on drier conditions without losing hit.  My V2 Clean is similar, although it didn't start out that way.  It was a little too long even on the drier stuff.  But now, after some burn-in, I get a V2 Pearl-like reaction.

well i don't know what drugs some of u r on....... BUT i love the V2 series and the V2 sweet is just perfect. right out of the bag on our house condition at my home centre in adelaide (Australia), my mate shot his first 300 this ball. great down the land then just takes a left turn! Great Ball!
our house pattern is 2.1:1 with very clean back ends!

Well for someone who is not a big cranker or throws a big hook, I am liking the sounds of this ball so far.  I throw the ball and like it to go down the lanes long and then make a move to the pocket.  I usually throw over second arrow and towards the end the ball makes a move to the strike zone.  If I can get control out of it that way it should be what I am looking for.  I guess I will have to let you know after I use it a couple of times.  Time will tell. I do bowl on fresh synthetic lanes conditions and bowl on back to back leagues so may have to adjust as the lanes breakdown.   Meg

Got my new Sweet and she lives up to her name so far. With 12 games on it I have averaged 196 and had 3 600 or better series with it.  Hopefully she continues.  Meg
