whats with ebi?
« on: August 08, 2017, 09:43:34 AM »
not trying to bash the ebi brands, but there new stuff just came out today, and i've already seen their next batch of balls. it's like there throwing shit against a wall seeing what stick! it's actually annoying as a guy that helps out in my local pro shop, which is ebi based, when people come in and ask for a ball recomendation, i couldnt even tell em whats out right now because their just releasing ball after ball! not trying to pick on ebi bc i know brunswick/dv8 released 12 new balls recently, but damn y so many new balls!

Welcome to the business model of every major ball company these days.  Just varies by year/season who dumps the most.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

The more i look at it the more i think Motiv is doing it right by releasing a ball every 45 days.

Well you have to differentiate, you can't lump all the brands together like that.  EBI has 4 brands under their banner, so yeah, if every company releases a couple balls at the same time, which they tend to do, it can be overwhelming.  You have to consider each brand it's own company, being under the same umbrella shouldn't matter.

but like as far as i can tell, other companies only have 1 "batch" of releases, ebi is having 2, and when their's 4 companies of ebi @ 2 balls a brand, thats 16 balls just this summer

i like it, till u think " wow that ball would be good if it were a solid/pearl" of the ball. like i feel like a solid trident would be good based on what others say about the ball(that it gets just a tad too far down lane even after surface adjustments) haha their needs to b a happy medium!

I don't see an issue there because if you need more ball than the Trident, there is the Jackal Ghost or LE. You have to look at motion and reaction, not the name of the ball.

Motiv is also only one company, so if they owned 3 brands that each released a ball every 45 days and had them spread out evenly, then they would have a release every 15 days as a company and people would be complaining about that.  Have to compare brand to brand, not one brand to 4 brands.

You can't do that though, you have to compare brand to brand.  What's the point then of having 4 separate brands only producing as many balls a year as Motiv does?  Just because Ebonite owns 4 brands, you can't say that Ebonite released 16 balls and Motiv only released 2.  You can say that Track released 4 to Motiv's 2, or you can say Hammer released 4 balls to Motiv's 2, but you can't lump all Ebonite together.  You have to compare brand to brand and their total number of annual releases.

Roto just released 4 balls kind of all together, but they do that every summer, likely won't see another release until November or December.  They also only supply to demand.  They had to push back the release of the Hot Cell because the demand of the currently produced items plus the preorders of the new stuff has the plant going full tilt.  You can't say they're releasing too much stuff when they can't keep up with the demand as it is.

You seem to be missing the point though.  No company puts out all versions of a ball at the same time.  Say the Lock came out and somebody thought a solid Lock would be a great idea, they're going to have to wait for the solid version just like every other company does, has nothing to do with how many balls are released at the same time.

The more i look at it the more i think Motiv is doing it right by releasing a ball every 45 days.

I get your point on comparing Motiv to the larger companies Luke. When i compare Motiv i mainly look at 900 Global as they're smaller scale unlike Storm and Ebi.

I think 900 global could lose out on some sales as their releases cannihalize each other when they release 3-4 at the same time

I really like the way Motiv comes out with new pieces.  Their stuff comes out like every 6 weeks or so!

The only bad thing as has been said to me multiple times is that when they just come out with one ball at a time and someone was hoping for a big oil ball and they get the Tank . . well, it's another month and a half to hope for something they need or want.  The bigger companies have more releases to reach a broader range, and regardless of what anyone says, people want new stuff.  The same people that complain about how fast balls get released are the same people that come in 2 weeks after I put 10 new balls on the shelf and say, "I was looking for something new, you had all the same stuff last time I was here."  People's mouths say one thing and their purchases say something else.
