Why are the Savage Flips not popular?
« on: April 21, 2004, 01:20:22 PM »
I've seen several of these ball going CHEAP!!!

And 2 days ago on EBAY.com, a used one in MINT condition went for just $15.00!!! How??? Why???

Here's the description of that ball from the guy that sold it:

"This is a used savage flip. Ball is drilled for a right handed bowler, span is 5 1/8. This ball has a seriously big flip on the back end. Ball has about 10 games on it. Basically mint condition."

The ball looked GREAT!!! The PIN was beside the ring and the CG about 3/4" right of grip center.

Why didn't this ball go for more than $15.00???

And I've been watching them go NIB on EBAY.com for as low as $33.00, $35.00, $40.00, etc...

WOW...

It seems that this ball would serve a "purpose" in the Ebonite arsenal line... meaning a Pearl Reactive that goes long and FLIPS very hard!!!

You'd think People looking for this type of reaction would buy this ball up like crazy!

Is this ball popular in your area of the world???

Mine was WAY too wet/dry sensitive, probably the most over/under ball I've had.  It would either hook or skate, and was affected very early by carrydown.  Tried everything with it, it just plain sucked for me.  Now if I could get another one cheap to fiddle with, I might do that . .

Not sure why it isn't very popular - I just picked one up that was thrown once (mis-fitted at pro shop) and it works great for me.  The backend is great and it will really hold if I tug it left and carries well on that type of miss.  I'll agree that it is affected pretty early by carry down from what I've seen - I've been leaving a ton of weak 10s, and I think that is why.  But when it gets a chance to grab a little on the back, it is a strike-fest with that ball.

I have one in my bag right now. Its still the first ball I pull out. I shot my first 800 about 2 months ago with that ball. I love my ball and I am now the youngest in the centers history of 40+ years to have a 800. 801 to be exact.I love it

I like the flip too.  I recommended it to a friend, and the goat when and shot a 300 2 weeks later.  Had a couple of brooklyns but who cares.

I got one 2nd hand, pin is a bit long for me, but it still is usable on dry wood lanes.  will probably get another to drill 3 3/8 X 3 3/8 stacked for synthetics.

Hammy.. try a rolling drill. another friend has one drilled like this and it behaves very smoothly, even on Proanvil (slick synthetic lanes) lanes with about 36 ft dressing.
