Okay, I am seriously looking at this ball, but I am wondering about it''s ability to handle oil and carry down. Being left handed, I run into more carry down on medium to heavy oil conditions and I need some opinions about its'' ability to get through carry down.

I am looking for a medium-heavy to heavy oil ball, but I am not sure this is it since it has a pearl cover.

Well, I went out and bought the Mission today and threw two games with it. My first game was an 11 strike 265 (I had a 7 count / 2 count in the third frame), but man what a ball!! I was carrying light hits, high hits and flush hits! I was playing 10-15 boards deeper than I usually play and had a great look.

Do you polish the Evolve over box finish, or do you take it down in grit to 1000 or 2000 Abralon before you polish?

I just bought an Evolve, and I really like it. Drilled it 45* x 4-1/2" x 30*, with a weight hole in the P3 location. This ball is really strong in the midlane, and has a nice move on the backend. Now that they are on closeout, I'm considering buying one with a longer pin and going pin up and polish, to separate the two. Any thoughts?

Depends on the bowler... Now last week I left the Evolve's at 4000 A-pad for all 3 bowlers... And then hit it with polish...One I had to use extended polish on his ball...

They all needed it for the desert...

Heard from 2 of them today...On Sunday one shot 269 and won $450, and his team mate shot 279 and won $700....

And their other team mate shot 793 with the Mission on Sat. Night in another house...with a 300 game... box finish....

But if we were selling the Evolve to someone with less hand, for more of a house shot, then I would knock it down... 500, 1000, and maybe stop at 2000 A-pad..

Hey Paul glad to hear you are liking the Mission so far. I had to take the surface to 4000 ab. Once i did that I used it 3 nights last week averaged 250 for the week including 4 279 games. I have to remember to take hand out of the ball to use this thing. Should work good on the left side for you.

Thanks Mike! It seems you are matching up good with yours!!

I am looking forward to see what this one will do. I bowl in two different houses, one with a shot on the drier side so I will not be using this ball there, LOL. The other house has been keeping their shot fairly flat, long and heavy for most of the year and I am hoping it will help me there. Also hoping to use it for upcoming tournaments (local, state, and national tournaments and others).

What degree is the pin to the VAL ? Where is the pin ? That will make a huge difference in the reaction you get

Go to the homepage and check out the last review:
"This ball has really impressed me. From what I've seen It seems to react better on dry lanes, or lanes with light to medium oil. If the lanes are burnt out Expect this ball react too much and come in too hard. If there's too much oil on the lanes Don't expect much reaction from the ball."

So basically this ball is comparable to some low end simplistic symmetric ball?
Not that what I've seen.

Well I decided to take the plunge and drill up one of the balls out of 2 cases I bought.

Ball started out with 3 oz top and a 2-3/4" pin. I chose the same layout I have on my Lunatic since I really like how that ball reacts but figure the Mission will be a bit stronger due to the core and cover combination.

The layout is 60 x 4 x 60. Weighthole is 2" below my PAP on the VAL.

I had the opportunity to throw a few games with the ball before I had to leave. The shot was our THS after 3 games from a 3 man league.

First off for a ball at 2000 Abralon and no polish, this ball totally ignore the heads. We do typically have good head oil but it gets sketchy as the night goes on.

What I am seeing on the back /12 of the lane is exactly what Ebonite said we would see.....the ball rolls, reads, and reacts. I am seeing a very strong and smooth reaction down the lane. No herky, jerky reactions here...no skid/flip on this one....strong and smooth.

The Mission plays very strong on an inside line. No overreaction as the ball comes off the pattern, it just rolls thru the heads, reads teh pattern and then reacts to the end of the pattern...just exceptional.

Playing a bigger swing shot further outside yielded a slightly stronger more angular backend reaction but nothing uncontrollable.

Have I mentioned the carry? The carry on this ball is phenomenal. I carried a lot of crap that I should not have carried. This ball carries every bit as well as my Lane 1 stuff which has always carried better than others in my hands.

I am going to work with the ball some more tomorrow night in league....I'll post more later.

I have seen very few unhappy with the reaction from this ball... I hope mine is everything its cracked up to be.. it will be here thursday with my c-system 3.5

There's a guy I was talking to that has a Mission and he says he wants to get rid of it because he "doesn't like the roll." He can't tell me anything else except for the fact that he doesn't like the roll and that he prefers the roll of Brunswick balls much better.

Any ideas here? I think i have the answer pinned down but I'm not totally sure.

He's got the ball drilled pin over the ring with the mass bias close to the strong position. So he's got it drilled for long and strong and now is saying that the ball doesn't roll...go figure.

I wonder what makes the Mission and 3.5 carry so well? Just luck, or is this something that was specifically engineered into both balls in order to get a specific type of energy transfer into the pins.

moto, what you are seeing here finally is the result of teh manufacturers doing their homework and actually testing the product properly before it goes to market.

When you are pumping out a new ball ever 4 weeks there is no way you can be doing the proper testing of the ball.

The Mission has been in R&D since last June. Why is it so good? They have tested it across the gamut of bowlers as well as lane conditions to make sure it is "right" before they put it on the shelves....

again kudos to Ebonite and Bill Scheid for taking the time to make it right and not just flop out another ball.
