Drilled first Elite ball!
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:02:24 PM »
I received an Elite Espionage for my first experiment with an Elite product! I must say that I've drilled a lot of bowling balls in the last few years and Elite seems to be a very high quality product! The thickness of the coverstock and ease of drilling was really surprising! The holes cut very easy and was a very smooth texture without an air hole, but appears to be very high quality! It reminds me a lot of the Legends/Lane Masters quality and when I placed the Pro Sect on the ball it fit tight to the ball! I've had some balls that the Pro Sect seemed to not fit very tight and it they seemed to be undersized! I'll post pictures of the ball and I went with a pin down, 40 degree drill angle x 3-3/4" x 70 degree val angle, pin under ring finger! Even with the matte surface the ball got through the heads really easy and clean with no early read! It picked up in the mid-lane really nice with a strong arc move at the break point! The hit was really good and the pins seem to stay low and not flying up, which accounted for the many messengers that I saw! I must say that I'm very impressed with my initial venture into the Elite product line! I want to thank "itsallaboutme" for the great products and don't be afraid to try something different!! Just my $.02, Bruce

Bruce,

Glad you took the plunge into Elite "waters". I also purchased an Espionage and have been very happy with both its physical appearance and its performance. I needed a strongish control ball for heavier than average oil and I got it in spades. See my "initial comments" in this forum from March. In fact, I liked it so much I bought a 2nd ball for after the transition.  Told a couple of friends out in Oregon and Washington about my experience and they bought Espionages also, with the same positive results.

The espionage is certainly a sleeper. I love the looks I get when I tell someone the ball I am throwing is an Elite ball, They have NO CLUE what Elite is, then they start asking where they can buy 1...unfortunately, most people still don't because they are brain washed that they need a lightening bolt on their ball because thats what the pros throw....(typical)

 Good to hear!

Like many others, I have been curious about the ELITE brand for a while. Due to recent events and conversations, I have decided to bowl with nothing other than the ELITE brand for an entire season.

While I am not the bowler I once was, I am a very experienced bowler who is still more than able to "hold my own". I have competed at the highest levels, with some small success, and have shot several honor scores, including an 800 series, so I do have an understanding of what it takes to score and be competitive.

Having been the local "ball nerd" for the last 20 years, and having drilled and thrown over
250 balls in the last decade, I feel that I will be able to give a very objective view of the quality, durability, and performance of this equipment VS other brands.

I will be opening a thread here on the ELITE forum, and will be updating it weekly with pictures, scores, results, opinions, observations, and perhaps even a video or two. I will be comparing the performance of the ELITE equipment against virtually every other "popular" brand out there, being thrown by my opponents.

Our next league season starts the last week of August, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to, perhaps, get and give some publicity to a small company that is trying to build a market share.

Hey Jeff/Charlest, It's your comments about the ball is the main reason for selecting it for my first attempt! A guy ask me what ball it was and I told him an Elite Espionage! He ask, "who makes it"? I said Elite! He said who is that? I have several guys that want to roll it so we're doing a test with them on Thursday! I use the Grip-Loc thumbs just so people can try out stuff so they can see for themselves!! The ball is amazing and I glad I decided to try it before I made anymore comments about Elite! Talking about having egg on your face!! I sincerely apologize to Mike/itsallaboutme and Elite!! Your product is awesome and I'm looking forward to getting more and letting others know about the product!! Just my $.02, Bruce

Bruce,

Very glad you had results similar to mine. I just dug mine out again because I'm seeing heavier oil than normal in my summer league. Hope to be able to use tomorrow night.

More practice with the Espionage today and that ball incredible! I had several guys there and I had one guy ask me if he could buy it when I wanted to get rid of it! Another guy is on the team we bowl tonight, last night of the league and they have a 3-1/2 game lead on us! He ask me if I wouldn't use that ball tonight and use a different ball! I was standing 27 and sending it out to about 8 and struck 8 out of 10 and the other two was a 9 pin and 8 pin. I didn't leave any 10 pins, but I did leave a 7-10 pocket when I was testing how deep I could get! I moved to 30 and tried to go out to 8 and it made it back, but was a little light! The pin down drilling let's the ball read the mid lane without over reacting on the backend! The other's were striking with it and the one is a young guy about 20 that uses 16lb and he overthrew it a few times, because of the 14lb weight!

Glad to see someone else having success with Elite. Ever since I've been doing video reviews for them I've been throwing a ton of their stuff, and I love all of it. Espionage has become first ball out on anything I bowl on. The new Treason, Echo, and Bowlersparadise Pegasus are awesome as well. Definitely recommend those if you're a fan of their previous stuff.

Well, I used the Espionage in our last night of league! I couldn't get my brain out of the way for a while! I missed a 10 pin and left a 4-9 first ball in the tenth frame for 190. Second game threw a couple bad shots and ended with 214 with one open frame from a split. The end of the second game I finally had sense enough to move deeper and just let the ball roll. Last game had the front 10 and was a bit slow and left a 4 pin for 289 and 693 series! The great thing is we won all 4 points and won the league! The team we bowled lead the league all summer and they beat up several weeks ago. The ball has earned a top spot in my bag! I have a senior tournament in Arkansas Saturday and this will be the first ball out of the bag!!
