Got my Elite Black today
« on: January 31, 2008, 05:16:35 AM »
I just got the ball they have blacked out the logos and the pin, so it is all black in color kind of funny looking. So do not waste your time by more than one unless you do not mind the all black ball.

I cannot find the reason for any blem on the specs, maybe there was an engraving error under all that black stuff on the logos hahaha

So once in awhile i read about guys wanting a ball without any logos so buy this one on the pilot program and you will be happy. Going to drill to pin under 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 it has no marked mass bias.

Found the blem when dropping it off at the drillers so be careful, the ball is undersized by about an 1/8 of an inch or so.

Oh well it might still work well just might miss an extra swpare or so ever 5-10 games hahahaa

Ebonite did a study that a small ball is actually better in terms of carry...maybe that's the strategy...

How can someone sell an undersized ball. Thats BS IMO. I would be demanding my money back. If its undersized i would want to be the guy getting ball calls at the center when you use it.

Some of the old pros (1940s-50) used undersized balls...better carry.
Ball hit lower on the pin, and helped the pin go sideways on the deck...which increased pin contact.
A pin flying horizontally, hits more pins than a vertically flying pin.
At least, that's what I was told back in the '60s by some of the older, better bowlers.

Why would this ball be illegal?

I don't know about the illegal stuff... But Brian Voss was/is? on staff with Elite, and I remember from somewhere there was a discussion and talk with him about multi colors on a bowling ball.  He hated it because he said it made it difficult for him to see/get a good read on what the ball was doing on the lane so he carried around about every color you could buy in Sharpies, and he blacked out the logos and stuff on all his bowling equipment.  If he is still on Elite Staff, I'd say this ball was a favor to him.

That's odd, for me it is just the opposite.  I like the swirls and logos on the ball because they help me see the transition phases of the ball through the lane as it makes its path to the pindeck.  I can tell when the skid is over and the roll has begun.

My memory may be faulty, but I think that is why the Brunswick 8583 came out.  It was at least 8.583 and they also had a ring in the proshops to measure the ball with.

I am guessing on the 1/8 th of an inch but you can see with the ring around the ball a pretty good size gap, i think 1/16 th would be much tighter looking than the gap he showed me with the ring.
