Red Alien
« on: October 08, 2009, 11:40:17 PM »
I was looking to get a new ball, and I ran across Elite's Red Alien.  I've heard of Elite products, but I don't see a lot of the guys on tour using them.  So I guess I'm a bit reluctant to purchase something.  Any advice would be great.

Thanks......

Hello,

ELITE is no longer eligible for use on the PBA Tour.  It was on tour and has been used by several top Pro's.  The most recent names being Robert Smith and Brian Voss.  I personally love my Red Alien and ELITE gear.  Most people dont like ELITE because the balls are quite expensive.  Now with that being said I can get ELITE products for much less than retail and if you are interested just shoot me a PM and I will get you a price.

The Red Alien is one of the newer balls and is being poured by 900 Global. Not sure if it is the first one that is made by 900 Global with their resins and cores or not. Previous ones were made by Brunswick.

FYI it got very good reviews as a strong oiler from both BJI and BTM magazines. But it does need serious oil to be used effectively.

It's $244 on bowling.com. The M80 coverstock and core shown would indicate its a Columbia Action. Why pay that much money for a knock-off re-release. Im sure Elite makes(or has someone else make) nice stuff, but for that price I could buy a lot of other equipment.

Since a lot of their equipment has Brunswicks Rocket core why not buy some of the original Brunswick equipment at half to a third the cost. Or two or three different columbia actions.

If you want an ELITE product, by all means go out and get one, but don't go out un-informed.

Most, if not all, of ELITE's products are pieces that have previously been released by different companies under different names, many being older Brunswick or Columbia tech.  They were successful, pretty good pieces then, so I suspect they would still be good, successful pieces regardless of whose name is on them now.

The prices on them (retail) ARE pretty high, but like PVellenga said, they can be had cheaper through the right channels.

P.S. Also remember that, if you should have trouble with it, you have to deal with whomever you bought it from, so make sure the seller is a reputable dealer who will take care of you, if need be.

Yes there is some truth in that the older ELITE gear was using older tech from other companies.  Now ELITE is working on their own stuff and the balls are indeed being poured by 900Global.  This is a great partnership and is resulting in great products.  Yes the price point is slightly higher than some other companies but I can get this gear for less than retail.  I am currently offering the Red Alien for $185 SHIPPED.  That is much cheaper then the other sources online.  They also just released details on the ELITE Sabotage and this looks like a great ball and cannot wait for its release.  I also am a Lane #1 reseller so if you guys want to try some Lane #1 stuff just let me know!  Thanks!

I also want to add that someone is misinformed above if he thinks it is a knock off of the Columbia Action.  The cover and core are not even close.  The ball was poured by 900Global and it is E80 coverstock not the M80 that is in the Columbia Action Balls. The balls we currently have available do not have the Brunswick rocket cores in them.  So that is incorrect also.

How come the Elite balls are more expensive in the US than all the others when here in Sweden a Red Alien is the same price as a Virtual Gravity..

And the New Sabotage is a stolen from Brunswick then re-configured Twisted Fury core, yes, the Elite Designer''s are really hard at work designing their own stuff?

You can make a case for alot of the ball companies using other companies ideas.  They are all sleeping together at this point.  Look at almost any core and you can see things that have been taken from other core designs.  Do you know where the core from the 900Global Bounty Hunter was designed from?  The Dynothane Threshold.  Where do you think the basis of the Twisted Fury Core came from?  Look at the Lane #1 Diamond cores.  About the only company out there that is original in core design is MoRich at this point, and I guarantee they will be taking ideas from Mo Pinel also.  That is the nature of the industry today.  Especially now that Track, Ebonite, Hammer, and Columbia are all made in one house.

Or, alternatively: you pay for what you hope you might get.

If you believe in "Huge price tag = good ball", then go for it and be happy.

If you pay $300 for a ball then that's what you get...A $300 ball.  Like I said, "'nuff said."  I never said anything about it being "good."
