Seriously considering Elite - Feedback?
« on: August 30, 2012, 04:50:05 PM »
I just came across a decent sale price on the black alien and the fugitive, both of which have specs that work best for my low rate, slow speed left-hand style. I'm tempted to try one or both, but there seems to be extremely little activity in this forum, and not much information on anyone rolling Elite. If anyone has information on the black alien or the fugitive, I would love to hear about it since I'm thinking of picking one up very soon.

Thanks in advance

The REV Fugitive high performance bowling ball features two unique new designs in both cover and core. The Ultra Grab Reactive cover combined with the C64 core creates an extremely aggressive combination. REV tamed it down with an Abralon sanded 1000 finish to fit most conditions. The Ultra Grab cover is versatile in that it can be altered easily both with polishing and sanding products.

REV is known for its sleek high performing products and the Fugitive fits that mold. Once again REV has produced a winner!

    Coverstock: Ultra Grab Reactive
    Weight Block: C64
Color: Black/Red (Actual ball color may vary.)
    Ball Finish: Abralon Sanded 1000
    RG: (16# 2.50) (15# 2.49) (14# 2.49)
    Diff: (16# 0.050) (15# 0.052) (14# 0.048)
Best Lane Condition: Medium - Heavy Oil
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

The Black Alien has landed and it's darker and meaner than ever! With a great backend and superior versatility, it will sure make your human friends jealous. Its no frills jet black finish tells the world you mean business. Why settle for Ordinary when you can be Extraordinary.

The Elite Black Alien is designed to compliment the massive hooking Elite Red Alien. We transferred the incredible hooking ability of the Red Alien down the lane for the Black Alien by tweaking the coverstock and increasing the strength of the core. This gives the bowler a ball that has a very similar overall hook as the Red Alien but a more angular path to the pocket.

If you are looking for a ball with extraordinary overall hook and big backend reaction, the Elite Black Alien fits the bill.

    Core: Capsule Core
    Coverstock: E73 Reactive
    Color: Black
    Ball Finish: 1000 Abralon
    RG: (16# 2.483) (15# 2.504) (14# 2.518)
    Diff: (16# 0.055) (15# 0.055) (14# 0.055)
    Hook Potential: High
    Lane Conditions: Heavy Oil
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

I know in the back of my mind that you are only trying to help, but I really don't need the marketing blurb, I already have that. Thanks for trying, but is there any one on the board actually using either of these orbs that can give me some objective feedback?

Thanks

Dont really have any objective feedback, but have to ask, why elite? I've seen very few and those who used to throw them have kind of moved on.

Good question. I've always had trouble with Asym, never matched up. Looking at what works best for me it's always been a fdairly low Rg sym with high diff, and the Black Alien looks perfect from that perspective.  At the current sale price, it's an attractive opportunity to give them a try.

I doubt the ball is a bad ball.  But from my experience, an Elite ball on sale is the normal price of a comparable ball from another mainstream company.  Better yet, comparable balls on sale at mainstream companies are cheaper.  Plus you have probably seen someone throw those balls.

I have nothing against Elite, but DO NOT use Elite reviews on Bowler's Paradise as an honest description of the balls performance.  I am 99.999% sure most (or all in some cases) Elite reviews are fake on Bowler's Paradise.

Probably good equipment, i'd say though that you could get something identical or very very similar in reaction with close to the same spec's that would be significantly cheaper.

Guys, I really appreciate the feedback, but let me add a few things:

- The Black Alien is on sale for $119 and the Fugitive is on sale for $109. I understand the concern about Elite's normal high pricing, and I would not be risking anything on new brands at that range, but I believe these are extremely competitive prices.
-I really would like to get the feedback from those who have actually tried it, not what they think it would do. Although the feedback is appreciated, it has no value.
-Please help me if you believe that there is another ball at the $109 or $119 price point with an RG below 2.50 and a differential above .55 in a symmetric core. I would love to know of such a ball. As I hope I mentioned earlier, not everybody makes balls at that spec and with my high rotation and speed, asymmetrics do not match up well nor do high RG symmetrics.

Thanks for the continued feedback, and if you have any other alternatives I would love to hear them!

I have not seen a Black Alien first hand, but a couple of people I know have Red Aliens, same core but a stronger cover. The Red Alien is the biggest hooking ball I have seen first hand. Both guys love theirs, so if you can get the black for that price, you should grab it.

If you're getting a good deal on it,what can it hurt to try one? If you get it, please be sure to post your thoughts about the ball.

If the ball is at a good price, why not?

I appreciate all the comments and conversation. @Bat, I also appreciate the reference to the C System Maxxed. I used to roll Brunswick exclusively, but admittedly stopped when manufacturing moved to Mexico. Perhaps it's time to revisit that decision. I have one problem with the Maxxed as an option, but I will post that in the Brunswick section so as to not pollute this thread.
After hearing all the comments, I may still go for the elite and am very curious about it, but additional research and references have pointed out that there are other balls to try in 14 pound and low-Rg symmetrical, namely the ebonite pursuit S, the maxxed out, and the jet altitude, which looks very intriguing as well. Of course the ebonite and jet are at a way different price point, so I'm trying not to upsell myself.... :)

Good conversation, good thoughts, thanks to all.
