Original urethane NAIL vs BLACK HAMMER
« on: February 11, 2009, 01:32:31 PM »
WHat was the difference between these two?  Was there a difference in the shell hardness, or was it just the surface finish that was different?

I know the PINK HAMMER was a very hard urethane, but I was thinking the original NAIL was softer ( like the black HAMMER ), just with a polished finish.

If what my buddy in college at the time told me is true, the Nail and Pink Hammer were the same ball. Apparently the Nail had a problem originally where one ball cracked before the TV finals or soemthing and sales of the ball after that were horrendous. As a result they ditched the Nail name, recolored the coverstock and called it the Pink Hammer.

I may not be 100% accurate but that's what my buddy told me. His dad was a pro shop owner at the time (early 90's) and a regional PBA bowler so I tend to believe him.
