My Burgundy Hammer

I'm not having much luck yet with the reactive balls, so I decided to try and pickup an old Burgundy Hammer to see if it would help.  WOW!!!  MadMax found one for me NIB and I had it drilled Friday night.  When I took it to my pro shop, he's like "What are you gonna do with this??"  I got to bowl with it yesterday and it's like I've rediscovered a long lost love!!  I couldn't believed how much this ball moves!!  I lined up at 20 and threw to 10, like a rolled my red Gyro and the Burgundy almost went into the gutter left!!  I moved over to where I throw my Sonic X and was still getting a little too much of the headpin.  I finally started throwing at the 3rd arrow and started slamming the pocket.  It doesn't hit quite as hard as my Sonic X, but it's still an incredible find!!  This ball is NEVER leaving my bag, ever!!!

I always hear people refer to a "Bergundy Hammer". Is this the actual name of the ball, or just the color?!?!

i have almost come to the conclusion that 90% of bowlers would rather throw a ball that hooks alot than throw a ball that strikes alot.  pchee2 is a prime example!!  

got a buddy who's an awesome bowler.  just for kicks he pulled out his old blue hammer to throw at a new house.  couldn't stop striking!!  made me sick.  most people would have retired that old ball 8 years ago.

stick with your burgundy . . . let everyone ask you what your "new ball" is!!

I was just shocked because my pro shop guy made it sound like this ball wasn't going to move at all and that it wasn't worth the money I spent on having it drilled.  I've always found the urethane balls to be so much more consistent with what they're going to do than I'm finding in the reactives.  I do have to say that my Sonic X got me 11 strikes in my first 2 games (very good for me at this point!!) and it was MUCH more consistent than my Truck, but the Burgundy just looks sooooo pretty rolling down the lane!!!

The original urethane Hammers came out with at least 6 different colors (which were all different coverstocks) and they were all known by the colors -- the box for mine said "Burgundy Hammer" on it.  There was the Black, Blue, Burgundy, Red, Pink and Purple -- at least that's all I know about.  From what I've heard/read, the Burgundy seems to be the most versatile of the group.  A buddy of mine had a blue when they first came out and I used to make fun of him for using his Hammer -- don't know why, it was just funny back then....

MadMax (from this forum) found my Burgundy for me.  He had 3, but I moved too late and had to hope he could find me another one, which he did.  Great to deal with!!  Anyway, he may be able to get you one, too.  As far as carry goes, I haven't really used it enough to tell if there's much difference between them.  I was definitely leaving a lot more single pins using my Truck compared to my Gyro.  With the Burgundy, the line into the pocket was much more predictable, but I was using it more for spares than anything else.  Hopefully, I can go tonight and get some more time with the Hammer....

They also had a a blue pearl and a red pearl and then they came out with the navy blue resin.  That I believe was the first resin they came out with.  I still have one NIB.  It has a long pin and high top weight.

Another ball that I think is still very good is the original black turbo.  it is a low flaring ball but covers a lot of boards.  It hits really hard like most 2 piece balls do

Actually, after last night, it may have moved up significantly in my rotation!  It was the only ball I could keep on the lanes and I ended up moving back to the same spots I was using 15 years ago -- start at the middle dot, throw to the 2nd arrow and BAM! strike!!  I still can't believe how much this ball is moving for me -- crossed over on quite a few shots, but the Hammer carried for me!!

Shoot if I could pay 50 bucks for a Burgundy (or Blue, or Red, or Purple, or Black...) Hammer I'd probably buy about 6 of 'em right now!  Screw the money, they'd last me forever!

I've wanted forever to try to get an "arsenal" of Hammer urethanes, but I've never been able to get my hands on one undrilled.  A perfect setup would be a red or blue pearl, 320 sanded Blue, and 1000 sanded Burgundy.  I think I could make due with variations, though.

Guys, if you can grab them, drill 'em up and knock 'em down.  There are collectors that try to hoard them that will never drill them, and that just takes valuable scoring material out of circulation.
