Hello All, I recently stumbled upon a Faball Black Hammer I bought for use as primarily spare shooting piece but was wondering if anyone could tell me how much hook potential these things have in the modern game.
Thank you in advance.
This all depends on how you intend to play the lanes front to back instead of side to side.
If the lanes are too caked for me that I can't get a good look with a solid or hybrid, and a pearl is just going too far regardless of if I keep my angles in front of me, I'd drop down to my Faball Blue Hammer, and play straight up 8 or 10, keep my angles in front of me, and move my target closer on the lane.
With modern balls, we've been trained to move our target further down the lane to delay the transition of the ball from skid to roll, as well as flip at the back end. With urethane, that target could come closer to you, especially with older balls or weaker covers. So I'd take that Fab Blue, and make sure to hit 8 or 10 at the arrows, and let it ride. The cover will hold up to where it doesn't hit flat or deflect, depending on how much you get the ball to roll.
Outside of that and being a spare ball, the Fabs have a lot of use in the game today, especially since they are still as versatile as they were 30-40 years ago.
