Be careful. A burgundy hammer is NOT a purple hammer. In my experience, the Burgundy was the worst. It chipped very easily, and the reaction was the worst of all of the urethane hammers. I really liked the Purple urethane hammer - definitely NOT the same as a burgundy.

Oddly you go against the VAST majority with respect to the Burgundy Hammer. Maybe you have/had too many revs for it and needed the Purple??  I don't know for sure. Was the purple weaker than the Burgundy or vice-versa?

I have seen more Burgundy hammers in the past 5 years than I saw in all of 1992 - 1996, its prime.

The burgandy was the strongest of the urethane Hammers.

So Randy probably needed the weaker ball because he is a stronger bowler than average. OK.

The Purple was similar to the Blue except that it was a bit "longer". Blue was a bit more arcy. I bought two burgundy hammers. First one had a chunk come flying out when it was being drilled. A major 2 inch chunk during the drilling of the FIRST finger hole.
The second one didn't crack / chip until a bit later. My main problem was that the reaction wasn't consistent. That may have been "house" specific in that there may not have been sufficient oil volume to warrant its usage. However, it quickly became chipped, around the fingers. Finally developed some cracking, and I dumped it. I never had a bad experience with Black, Blue, or Purple hammers - all of them were top-notch balls. The Red Razor urethane which was released in '95 was a MONSTER, but was overshadowed by all of the reactive balls. Faball urethanes were the BEST (except for the Burgundy - IMHO). I am not nor was not ever a hi-rev bowler. Tweener at best.

I shot my first 700 with a burgundy back in the early 90's. I never had an issue with it and ended up selling it to a buddy that still has it to this day.......great ball!!!!!!!
