Picked up a Red Pearl Hammer
« on: December 20, 2006, 03:53:47 AM »
Just as the topic says, i picked up a red pearl today for fried fronts and flying backends, and spare shooting.  Im looking for feedback at what the surface should be at and where some might have it.  Im pretty much thinking im going to get a label drill, nothing fancy.  Anybody have any input, it would be appreciated!

Is it the pancake block urethane ball or the older one with a core?

That ball does not hook much at all so be prepared for that.. changing the surface will make very little if any difference on that ball..

NO!!! The pancake weight block was in the Hammer(Ebonite) version. The Faball Red Pearl had the traditional Hammer weigth block. It's also a brighter red; the new one is dark.

For you youngsters

Faball first released the Black Hammer, then the Red, Blue and Red Pearls, Pink, then the Blue Hammer, Purple, etc... All have the grenade, keg, whatever tradition weightblock like you see in the Pure Hammers and Sling Blade.

The Nail had a pancake block.

All, but the Nail and until the 3D series came out used the same weight block.

Mine, too. I keep one in the garage for a "rainy day". I won the 2004 Georgia State Tournament with a Blue Hammer on some third shift FRIED wood lanes. Shot 762 scratch.

No prob. I grew up during the urethane revolution so I know this stuff fairly well.

Brodieman,

You can tell which version you have by looking at the markings. An original red pearl would have a circle with crosshairs and a Fab stamp around where the pin is located. The newer version would not have that. So crosshairs w/ Fab stamp = original, no crosshairs = Ebonite.

As others have said, the original Fab version had a working core whereas the Ebonite re-release had a pancake.
