Can anyone recomend a good sport shot ball?
« on: May 22, 2005, 03:52:38 AM »
I just joined a sport shot league, and i have a few extra bucks so i figured id get a new ball for it. I throw about 19-20 mph decent revs and i have a high track, any suggestions?

Im not sure what the shot is yet i start on monday so ill know then, my pro shop guy tells me i need atleast a 4 inch pin, most of my stuff has the pin over the ring finger (right handed).

I'd go with a 2-3 inch pin and keep the pin below the fingers to get the ball to roll up earlier and be smoother at the breakpoint.  I really think a Track Slash is an awesome sportshot ball.

Well, if your a high tracker, it'd probably be best to keep the pin above the bridge or even with it. As Icetink said, the Slash is a good sport shot ball. The Tournament of Champions, two people were using it I believe, and that was a pretty tough shot.

I'm not an expert, but don't most sport leagues put out different patterns each week?

I know a co-worker that is doing a summer sport league and they are putting out a different PBA pattern each week.

If the patterns are constantly changing, I don't think you can get pick just one ball that will be good for handling every pattern (unless you pick plastic or old urethane and just throw straight to the pocket).

You would probably want a couple of different balls and/or different drillings depending on the pattern.  (ex: something to handle heavy oil, carrydown, dry heads, crisp backends, etc), so maybe something that has a nice smooth arc, and something with a strong skip/flip reaction.

Of course, you could just pick a ball and learn how to adjust to the conditions (I know a few people that only have 1 ball and just learn to play different lines, adjust speed, or alter their revs to play the conditions).

Either way you don't have any info in your profile or much information about your style, weight preference, or amount you want to spend.  I've noticed that the more information you provide, the better the advice you are likely to receive.

There are plenty of people on here with balls for sale (new and used) and you could probably get a couple of good balls for the price of something new in your pro shop.

Bowling this Month ranked the Vertigo VERY HIGH for sport conditions. I've found the same thing.

I've never bowled on "sport" conditions, but it sounds like you might already have a ball in there that would be good.  The only thing it looks like you are missing is something strictly for "heavy oil."  You have stuff that is rated for medium-light, medium, and medium-heavy.

Do you not think your current arsenal is going to perform well, or are you just looking for a reason to buy another ball?  I can understand if you just want another ball, that seems to be a theme around here

If you want something strictly for heavy (again, I've never bowled sport and the only thing I can find is that they limit the ratio to either 2-1, 2.5-1, or 3-1 depending on the lane surface that is used), maybe look at a TNT, Supreme Justice, Ultimate Inferno, Goliath, Anomaly, Real Deal, Hawg, Razor Blade, or something else along those lines.
