Balls can crack for different reasons? If a ball experiences extreme temperature changes which can definitely happen in Baltimore then it is more prone to crack

Just shipping a used ball can start the cracking process. It's warm inside a building, then goes outside in a truck for awhile, then back inside, then back outside where it has been freezing, then goes back inside where it's warm.

The temperature changes can definitely cause cracking. It doesn't matter how long it's been since you purchased it.
