having some trouble. help me out!!!
« on: September 16, 2004, 01:20:20 PM »
I have been looking for a good light oil ball. I have tried at least 10 in the last year.

SlayR, Purple Executioner, Sling Blade, Justice Pearl, Groove, V2 Dry, etc

None of these worked too well. I think what i need is something that will go 45 ft. w/o much hook at all, and then take a sharp, not arcing, turn for about 10 boards on a fresh shot.

Maybe a Fuze Purple Pearl, V2 Sweet/Clean, Hot Rod, etc.

Offer me any, and name a price or check my profile for a trade.

Oh yeah, no urethanes unless is is the Slate Blue Gargoyle.

Im still not totally understanding this. A sharp mild backend, thats kind of an oxy-moron. If its a sharp backend its strong, if its a mild backend its usually an arcing type of thing. Basically your saying you want the ball to snap, then stop hooking?

no, i just want an angular backend, as in i don't want any arc, just take off. likea slayr drilled pin over bridge. i had one and it only hooked about 10 boards, but it was all on the backend. i also had a x-factor drilled the same. it had the same angle, but hooked 18 on the back.

im looking for something that will just turn with no notice, but not much. the shooter xl looks like the best candidate, but i know a fuze purple or a blue victory/r would work as well.

that's what i meant by sharp.

So are you saying that you liked the look of the Slay/R and the X-Factor --- but what you are looking for is the same look, but MORE hook than the 18 boards that the X-Factor gave you... is that right?

You need a Valor P Tour. The ball will give you great length
with a snap skid flip reaction. You will not be disappointed if you drill one !!
If you knock down 10 pins always smile,no matter how they fell. An X on the 1st ball is 1 step closer to 300.

i want an unforseen or immediate turn of about 10 boards on the backend, so less hook than the x factor. lokoing for a hook similar to the slay/r, drilled for length.

does that make sense to anyone?

OK I get it... but then, what didn't you like about the Slay/R?

The purple Fuze will be too much and the Hot Rod will too.  I have a #15 1/2 Slate Blue Gargoyle, drilled straight over the label, thumb plugged one time to lengthen the span, with not more than 15 games.  Send a list of what you have for trade.  I would be interested in the Slay/R.

the slayr was great, but my pro shop messed up the span, so i just traded it for a hot wire, which worked well too. i have thrown 2 slayr's since and neither have worked. i have another coming and will try it, but the only pattern that worked was pin over bridge cg out. i hate to plug balls, so i would have to get one drilled just like it. to avoid this i wouldn't mind a more versatile ball as far as drilling goes.

but if someone has a slayr drilled like that, let me know.

I also hate the plug balls.... but a thumb slug isn't too bad. One of my local shops does a great job... very clean, even at doing a double-slug for the thumb. 15 minutes and $10 later, you're tossin' the ball!

anyhow, how far out of a CG worked for ya?

anywhere from a 10-45 degree angle on the cg, about 1-2 inches on a 3-4" pin.
a think the pin over brisge worked the best, and i think using it on almost any reactive pearl, dry lane ball would work. solids were ok, but pearls work better

i don't know if this will help any, but i have a rhino pro x drilled pin under middle finger, cg at 50 degrees, which puts the pin 6 inches from my pap. This this just takes off once it gets to the backend, but is very very very clean in the front. I think this drilling really makes the cover do a lot of work, and the drilling also makes the core push down the lane further than regular. Amazing snap, but if there isn't any dry on the backends, its 60 feet with 2 boards of hook.
