looking for a hard hitting mild ball
« on: May 13, 2004, 03:20:22 AM »
I am looking for a ball that hits hard, but dont hook off the lane.  I have a crunch time drilled with the pin above my ring finger but it snaps too hard on the backend.  The only way i can throw it and keep it on the lane is if i stand lext to the ball return and play 15 to 5.  I am looking for something that has a nice controllable arc.  I have a columbia wild that I can use but it just doesn't have the hit I am looking for.  CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!

Maybe you should look into a V2 Dry it is made for dry lanes with a arc. Not sure how well it hits though.

I own one too and I would say it carries way better than expected. I love mine. Nice looking ball too

I wouldn't consider the lanes dry.  They are not soaked but not dry.  It is a shot with an extremely clean backend.

how about an aggressively drilled barbed wire?  i have one drilled weak for extremely dry lanes, and i still carry out the corners.  it has a less aggressive cover, but it will still give you the backend(if they are as clean as you say they are) if you have an aggressive drilling.  i had one drilled for my dad a few months ago(he likes to play the outside without swinging it too much, opposite from what i like to play), aggressive drilling, and it slid right through the heads into a very controlled arc into the pocket.  it wont snap at all, but it will definitely generate power through the pins.

Best bang for the buck is the Chrome/Yellow Power Groove....no question about it.

Have you looked at the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle?  Hooks WAY more than any old school urethane, but no where near as snappy as today's resin balls.  I bowled a tournament 2 weeks ago where everyone else was rolling resin and having problems with them rolling out (backends were THAT DRY!!!).  I used this ball to tear them up!!!

Keep the suggestions coming and people are going to be happy because I will probably buy 3-4 of the balls that everyone has suggested.

you mighy try a V2 Clean or a Storm Flashpoint, both will get thru the heads and not over react on the backend.
