Title: looking for a hard hitting mild ball
Post by: quietstorm on May 13, 2004, 03:20:22 AM
I am looking for a ball that hits hard, but dont hook off the lane.  I have a crunch time drilled with the pin above my ring finger but it snaps too hard on the backend.  The only way i can throw it and keep it on the lane is if i stand lext to the ball return and play 15 to 5.  I am looking for something that has a nice controllable arc.  I have a columbia wild that I can use but it just doesn't have the hit I am looking for.  CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!

although i don't have any of these any more, i recommend:
Monster Slay/R
Sling Blade
Jekyll
V2 Clean
V2 Dry

these should cover the hit very well. Especially the slay/r

New or used? I have a N.I.B 15# Reaction Rip tucked away in the garage. Message me if you're interested.

Can you give me a little bit of information about the reaction rip.  Also, I am looking for a big hit pearl.

Try a Diesel or even a weak drill on a Power Groove Reactive.

I have two balls that have really shined for me on these conditions:

1) Neo-Tac Khameleon - polished to 3000 grit
more of an arc type of reaction, but definitely not jumpy at all

2) Dynothane Thing Returns - factory finish
skid/snap type reaction, but may be a bit too much on the backend?!?!

I would look for one of these two balls.

Good luck!

Alright.. ESPN has conformed what we have thought all along...  Bowling is a low degree of difficulty sport, requiring little to no athleticism.  On the bright side, we did beat out shooting, billards and fishing!

The Thing Returns hooks a bunch.

In the Dyno-Thane line, I'd go with the Crisis.  Great ball for light oil, and for a medium-oil shot in transition.  Excellent "hit", whatever that is.

I'm sort of already liking my Spirit II from Columbia for that lighter oil but not lightest oil ball!

I am not looking for something with a hard snap on the backend.  I am looking for a smooth arcing ball.  Like I said, I have a crunch time and that ball is way to aggressive on the lanes that I bowl on.  I have no problem getting through the heads but I need something that i can control on the backend that still has good hit.  The wild that I am throwing has the control but it just doesnt have the hit and I'm ringing 10 pins.  I have a ball speed of 18-19 mph with high revs.  Thanks for everyones advice.  I'll be watching for more!!!!

Look at just about any Brunswick. Monster slay/r for me was pretty darn snappy, but I think that was due to my slow ball speed and higher revs. Anyways, monster slay/r for a light oil ball, or a monster bruiser, deffinitly a nice arcing ball.

Maybe you should look into a V2 Dry it is made for dry lanes with a arc. Not sure how well it hits though.

I wouldn't consider the lanes dry.  They are not soaked but not dry.  It is a shot with an extremely clean backend.

how about an aggressively drilled barbed wire?  i have one drilled weak for extremely dry lanes, and i still carry out the corners.  it has a less aggressive cover, but it will still give you the backend(if they are as clean as you say they are) if you have an aggressive drilling.  i had one drilled for my dad a few months ago(he likes to play the outside without swinging it too much, opposite from what i like to play), aggressive drilling, and it slid right through the heads into a very controlled arc into the pocket.  it wont snap at all, but it will definitely generate power through the pins.

Best bang for the buck is the Chrome/Yellow Power Groove....no question about it.

Have you looked at the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle?  Hooks WAY more than any old school urethane, but no where near as snappy as today's resin balls.  I bowled a tournament 2 weeks ago where everyone else was rolling resin and having problems with them rolling out (backends were THAT DRY!!!).  I used this ball to tear them up!!!

Keep the suggestions coming and people are going to be happy because I will probably buy 3-4 of the balls that everyone has suggested.

you mighy try a V2 Clean or a Storm Flashpoint, both will get thru the heads and not over react on the backend.
