Yes, the picture is very thin on the surface, and a light sanding will take it right off.  The ball underneath is white.

I sanded mine with 120, it still has a picture

How long did you sand it?  It's not like you just sand it to make it a lower grit, you have to keeping holding it until the image fades away.

You may want to try and find an older one.  I think Brunswick has improved on their production methods and the picture is more difficult to get rid of now.
