Ball Conditions clarified!
« on: December 07, 2004, 11:03:45 AM »
I recently bought two balls from the same person.
One was exactly as described. The other had an unmentioned weight hole and approximately 3 inches of repaired damage very close to my track area. He told me he had purchased the ball from another BRC member who did not tell him about the damage.
I believe most of the people including the person I bought from are honest.
Here is my questions:
If someone says a ball has less than 50 games should we assume he or she was the original owner?
Shouldn't repaired damage of significant size be noted?
Weight holes are always a preference shouldn't they be posted?
Am I expecting too much? Shouldn't we assume the seller is the original owner unless otherwise indicated or am I asking too much? I can only afford used equipment as I am semi-retired for medical reasons so I do look for legitimate deals on older balls.
I feel I can trust the people on this site but now I am reluctant to buy without a picture.

i believe anything more than your typical small scratch should be shown a picture of.  All holes and plugs should be disclosed before hand.  But if you're buying a current line ball for 40 bucks shipped you cant expect it to be prestine either.

its that easy

I'm sorry I asked a serious question!
I didn't realize that to be on this site you had to have unlimited funds and know everything about every ball made since Fred Flintstone bowled.
Gee I wonder why serious adults don't stay long?
Thanks for all the courteous replies N O T

Just use the block user button. I cant see anything besides what you and thfonz98 wrote! As for the condition of the ball, I never really thought a weighthole was a thing that was used for a persons prefrence. I always thought it was just to get the ball legal? I dont think a weighthole is a big deal. If its there, it needs to be there more then likely.

Yeah, well, young-un, weight holes are for FAR more than just making a ball legal!  Where you put it, how big you make it, what angle you drill it into the ball, makes a pretty big difference in how it react!

Um, actually weight holes make up only about 5 percent or so of ball reaction.  Cover is 60, core is about 30, and static weights/weightholes make up the rest.

Guess it depends on the seller.  I always try to give a complete description when I'm selling something -- # of drills, weight hole plugged/unplugged, etc.  In specific response to your statement, I definitely feel that the repaired damage should have been mentioned.  All I can suggest in the future is that you ask more questions if the seller is unclear.  In all fairness, let me say that I've only had one deal go bad on B/R, and most of the stuff I've bought has been at least as good as advertised, in most cases better than I expected.  Sorry that last transaction didn't work out for you.  Are you still throwing 16#??  I've moved down to 15# --- maybe I can make you a deal on something that will take the "sting" out of that last deal --- let me know.
