UPDATE on Stolen Equipment on E-Bay
« on: November 21, 2005, 11:46:31 AM »
It has come to my attention that VERY recently someone has stolen some equipment from Island Lanes in Grand Island NY. This equipment is now up for sale on E-Bay!  As I am typing this there are several very mad bowlers at the NY State Police Barracks filing charges.
Beware of the following E-Bayer, and anything coming from the Grand Island, Niagara Falls and Tonawanda areas!

The E-Bayer is :

That exact link is my son's ball! I for one may be paying a visit!

Dumb question, How are you sure? You cannot even see the drilling/span.

It's a shame it's stolen.  Less the unspecified shipping charges, it looks like a good deal.  Hope you bust his butt.

There were several items stolen from the pro-shop, and most of the balls are already on E-Bay. I have all serial #'s of mine and my son's equipment, and the owner of the pro-shop has most of the other balls serial #'s. And to top it off, the person selling the equipment has made several "slip-ups" which led to us discovering them on E-Bay. Ther is quite a bit more to all of this as well. I would almost bet that we will find more that is not even known yet.

Police were on scene at the sellers house approx 30 mins ago, and all of a sudden now all the bowling balls he had listed are gone! Just awaiting a call from my son to see what transpired. Will update when I get more info.

Hopefully they recovered all of my son's equipment...the RS-1, Crunch, Storm Freedom, and 1 or 2 others!

I am glad they caught him.  I have had a couple of balls stolen and doesn't make you very happy.  That is why I also keep all of my serial numbers at home plus I have every box from the ball since I drill my own stuff.

This is so important to wright down all the serial number so when this happen you can call all the area proshops. If anyone bring a ball in to be redrill they can look at the serial numbers and hold the ball for you. all they have to say to the person is that this ball was reported stolen.

Update....the equipment is back with the rightful owners, and charges are still pending against the 17 year old....who WAS on the High School bowling team. The father was angry that the police basically came to his house along with my son, but as my son told him and the police, nothing would have been done without the authorities!

There were over a dozen stolen bowling balls there, and the 4 that were on E-Bay were immediately withdrawn while police watched.

Sometimes a good ending does happen.

Well hopefully he will learn a lesson from this.  Does anybody know why he did it or was this just something he does for fun?

I still can't understand why you would steal a bowling ball... I mean... Steal a car or something if your going to steal anything! A bowling ball? I mean come on, all it does is hurts the person being stolen from more than you can benefit from selling them (look at the resale value of bowling balls).
