COMMENTS

Likes: I tested this ball twice on the Kegel Winding Road pattern. I really liked the way this ball read the midlane and continued on the backend. You can see the ball reading the midlane really well, which I absolutely love. Compared to my Taboo, this ball started to read about 1 to 2 ft sooner with as much backend reaction. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this bowling ball's reaction. This ball is a great value for any price point, let alone for a mid entry level.

Dislikes: At this point I have not seen anything that I do not like from this ball.

COMMENTS

Likes: Easy read of the mid lanes, arc to flip is easily adjustable by bowler and surface.

Dislikes: More to follow

So far the Arson is monster in the mids on the patterns played. The test will be the ball read on patterns above based on breakdown by other bowlers. Lane play was a better read than my Taboo. Prefer the ball surface as it oiled up.

LANE CONDITION

Type: USBC Nationals (41') & THS (39' - South Point & Gold Coast in Las Vegas, NV) - I will be bowling on more patterns in the near future (Megabucks) and will follow up with another review at a later date.

COMMENTS

Likes: The Arson is going to be my favorite ball for many various lane patterns. I was so excited to find out that Hammer was planning on releasing this ball. This ball reads the midlanes (about 1-2' sooner than the Taboo) with a srong yet controlable movement on the backends. I think the cover / core combo will work for various styles of bowlers as it will give the bowler a ball that will read the midlanes, but will not burn up and you can chase the oil line as the lanes get drier & the ball will still turn the corner. I think this ball witll be a great addition to most bowling arsenals at the affordable price point with the amount of hook you will receive.

Likes: I drilled the Arson with a RICO layout with box surface. The new cheetah has a larger volume than the old one. The Arson matches up well with its smooth heavy roll. The Arson rolls the whole lane with good continuation on the backend. I was able to play a lot straighter and firm on this pattern. Carry is awesome as the Arson keeps the pins low.

COMMENTS

Likes:This ball is the 1st ball out of my bag every where I go. The Arson has a very predictable ball motion that I love. The total overall hook from the Arson is unmatched from any ball in its price point. The only pattern I've bowled on that I can't use it on is cheetah. Also the ball is very surface friendly, you can change it and get the desired reaction.

Dislikes: No dislikes.

Hammer Arson
Weight: 15#
Pin: 3-4"
Top Weight: 3 oz.

Layout:
4 1/2" Pin Above the Ring Finger. CG kicked out with a small weight hole needed.

First Impressions:
This ball works great on heavy oil and still has plenty of energy leftover to make the turn downlane.

General Thoughts:
This ball works very well for a mid priced ball and is a go to when the Epidemic seems to be sliding too much down the lane. If the house shot you bowl on normally tends to be on the heavier side of the slick stuff, this ball will work wonders for you.

Comparison/Contrast:

Versus the Plague

The Arson has more backend reaction for a duller ball. The Plague will handle heavier sport oil patterns better than the Arson.

Versus the Taboo

Not as strong as the Taboo but can definitely pack a punch and be considered a go to ball if your Taboo is breaking too much and the lanes are a little bit more broken down on the medium side of oil.

Final Conclusion:

If you need a benchmark dull ball in the bag with a simplistic weight block and aggressive coverstock, then the Arson is a ball you should give a look too.

From the get go I had high hopes for this ball, despite the negative comments I had heard from some very respectable people. My hopes were certainly met, the arson is what you would expect for the price point. A simple, easy go to ball, that you can make do whatever it is you need it to do. I know hammer marketed this ball to be a bit above its price point, but I would say that it is certainly not going to be anyone's first choice on oily lanes. Although the cover will allow for an earlier break point, my taboo certainly handles the larger volumes with much more ease.

Dislikes:

If I had to pick one short coming for this particular ball it would have to be the balls tendency to skid a bit too far when over thrown or catching oil too far down in the mid-lane.

Likes: When I saw that Hammer was releasing a ball with the Hot Sauce core, it immediately got my attention. The 2000 grit Hybrid cover gives this ball a very smooth, predictable, heavy roll. For the price this will be an easy "go to" ball or "benchmark" type of ball for a lot of players.

Length: My Arson is currently drilled pin above the ring finger with the cg stacked underneath which gives it quite some length for me

Back End: Stores it's energy and makes an angular transistion to the pocket

Overall Hook: mid to high

Midlane Read:Gets through the midlanes clean

Breakpoint Shape: Angular

COMMENTS

This ball is a great transition for me when my Taboo starts to pick a roll too early - this one allows me to play the same part of the lane but gets the ball a few feet further before making a transition.

A great addition if you're looking for something to play the lanes a little straighter with a strong backend.

Breakpoint Shape - Ball picks up pretty early and makes a huge left turn.

COMMENTS
Carry - This is one of those balls that when you hit the pocket, you will be burying the hole and leaving pins spinning all over the deck. That comes in handy for knocking out those solid 9 pins.
Likes - Ball is the strongest Symmetrical ball on the market, this allows for a larger snap on the backend.
Dislikes - Ball needs oil. I have a hard time getting this ball to stay right.

Polished the ball because I was having trouble keeping the ball to the right. Once I did, I bought myself about 4-5 more feet of length and created a very angular shape off the break point.

Never owned the sauce or hot sauce, but can't imagine them hooking more than this ball. I have always been a fan of super strong symmetrical balls since back in the rhino, inferno, big time era of bowling balls. This ball reminds me very much of the big time ball, all I have to do is stand left and throw right.
